I am new to the boards, but I have modeled N and HO over the years, and I am looking into building my childhood dream now, and running an O-27 around my living room. It is a HUGE build, approx 13 1/2' x 22' with a 6 1/2' open span doorway. All I got is a dream, and a Lionel 6-11865 set to start with. Any Ideas on how I can make this track layout a reality?

How much space is available, inside of that room? What would you like to have included, such as operating accessories, scenery and so forth?

the track will be elevated and go entirely around the room. the only accessory will be a switch going into a closet where I can easily back in for maintnence and the like. need to figure out how to support turns and the open span of the doorway. 71' loop approx. I want to get the track up and running with my existing kit, then change out transformer, and eventually upgrade to some SD40-2 units or some GP-38s

A shelf layout supported on shelf brackets would work well. Lionel track with its tight radius curved sections, 0-27 @ ~14", and 0 @ ~16", would allow narrow shelves even at the corners. A 6' to 6-1/2' long section of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood, only wide enough for a single track would lift out of the door opening and store conveniently. You could use a short piece of household lamp cord, one end soldered to the center and outside rails of the lift-out track, and the other end plugged into a socket at one of the shelf ends, itself wired to the fixed track rails.

You could widen the shelves along the walls for passing tracks, spurs, or even car repair facility sidings. Though I expect that you may want to forget about work while working with your hobby...LOL
