    New Bright

I've had plastic battery operated ones and the motors are somewhat noisy. They come with hook loop style couplers and usually have engine tethers. Lettering is usually flashy stickers. I can't recall owning an electric train but I may have and the engines were very similar other than metal wheels on the engine and possibly the tender and other pickup cars.
Other than that they're actually pretty awesome sets considering the price and the durability of the plastic.

I haven't had much luck with them to be honest. It's nice, but they can be noisy. I'd also consider looking around for a small starter set for Tree use in the future, but honestly, new bright is pretty durable.

this is the set i bought ignore the extra track and cars... it's electric and 55 bucks didn't seem like a lot. i dunno if thats the rite transformer, but if i do have problems with the transformer most likely it's a dc motor i'll just hard wire the wires for the pickups to the motor. and it should be fine. the cheap g guage bachmann sets are getting really expensive for what they used to be. and i wanted one of these since i seen them in toys r us in 1997 or whenever it was.

I must say this is the first "eletric" version of a New Brite manufactured train set I've seen. Most are battery powered and are usually low priced that have no long durability for long term use. I don't have enough info to let you know how durable the electirc version will be. If you are not worried about a realistic looking train and want something for a budget under a tree, you found the perfect set. I myself found a Lionel G scale Polar Express battery powered train for only $30, Lionel G scale engines are known for not holding up, but for $30, what's the difference. I also seen people purposely buy New Brite trains off of ebay cheap and use them as a base to make 7/8 scale rolling stock. When ever you are ready for a more reliable Christmas train, go with Bachman for the price, the next step up would be USA Trains or Aristocraft, but the price goes way up also. Good Luck.

thanks, i tested it out and it runs good, quiet and smooth. prob. just as good as my old bachmann 4-6-0 passenger set. it just doesn't have smoke. i dunno if it's got sound, i just tested it and put it up. but i did see opening in the bottom of tender for a speaker so i dunno, i'll full with it at a later time. i been busy.

took it out and ran it yestersday, i was pretty pleased. the tender has a bell and chug sound with on off switch. it also runs very smooth. i just bought a used bachmann suwanne river g scale passenger set. for 55 bucks. it runs pretty good. but the engine has a bent wheel or something, it has a spot where it seems it will jam up if i run it at slower speeds then i have to run it in reverse to get it unstuck but as long as i run it at a decent speed it runs fine. are there any known gear problems with the bachmann 4=6-0 steam locos? anything i could check?

the new bright actually runs really smooth, but when you compare the new bright to the bachmann the bachmann looks a little more detailed and realistic

the new bright is also a "lot" smaller than the bachmann.
