I finally got around to making a new trackplan for the rebuilt layout. This shows the main line and some industries. The Yards at Andersley and the Lumbermill area will be shown on seperate plans shortly.
I just finished the Lumbermill area trackplan. The streets and buildings in the edge of town area are yet to be decided, but will definitely include a diner for the railroad crews and industries workers! [ 17. November 2002, 17:39: Message edited by: Alan ]
Alan, It seems to be a nice layout with that shape of the lines I´m looking forward to se the plan for Andersley Yard. I can see that you have concern about the environmental issue because you have diverged the chemical plant and the food factory with several hundred yards
Alan, you are working with the plans faster than I can post a reply Anyhow, that´s a fine lumber area trackage.
Alan, Very interesting plan! Looks like it will be a nice layout. What kind of diner are you planning? Wouldn't happen to be one of those new Kato Denny's would it? [ 17. November 2002, 20:46: Message edited by: BNSF FAN ]
Yeah, a Denny's would be good. Blame Catt for that I wouldn't mind scratchbuilding one of the ones we used during a railfan holiday in Southern California. Now I wish I had taken plenty of photographs of them. Both were in the Cajon pass area. One was called Summit Diner, IIRC, and the other was Tiffany's. If anyone has pictures of them, I would love to see them.
Nice job Alan! Must say I like this one better than the last one. All my N scale stuff is boxed up for a future layout, most likely on a hollow-core door. Your work, as well as the rest of the N scalers, is giving me inspiration.
Alan- Your track plan shows a branch line that appears to enter a tunnel? Is this a lead to further trackage? Hidden staging? Boxcab E50
Tiffany's closed a couple of years ago. Great place but couldn't compete with the "Golden Arches". Brian
I can take some pictures of one of the Denny's we have here in Simi Valley if you want to scratch build one, most of them looks the same anyway. Where is that Summit Diner located ? I don't have any plans of going back to Cajon for the next couple of month or more, but who knows, if we go to Vegas, we could make a short detour in Victorville or Barstow (just have to convince wify that it will only be a "short" break, she knows me, when I look at trains, I forget about time) Jesper
The summit diner was north of highway 138 on I15. We could watch the trains from the diner whilst we were eating. Great! When we were there in 1998 there was a motel near the I15/138 intersection, but it was closed up. has this now reopened? It would make a great location for railfanning the pass, and save having to go into San Berdoo each night.
The branch line goes into tunnel below the lumbermill and emerges at a lower level where there is a siding (hidden) to a quarry where stone is loaded into hoppers, providing loads for the AWRR. There are also two stub-end tracks with a run around to release the locomotives, and provide somewhere for trains to go "off-stage". They may also be used for passenger trains to appear on the main line from time to time
Alan, I was there about 2 month ago, but came from 138 and went south on I15, so I didn't see the diner. I know there is a gas station and a fast food (MacDonald I think) at the 138 / I15 intersection (I used both), but don't recall seeing any motel, so I don't think it has re-opened, but maybe someone else knows. Jesper
Thanks Jesper. Tiffany's was on the east of I15, south of 138. What I took to be a closed motel was on the west of I15, north of 138. I think a gas station was near the diner, IIRC. Very sad, I love the feel of those diners
