I have added a new photo gallery to my website. The photos are of Santa Fe Warbonnets taken between 1990 and 1994 on Tehachapi Pass. Here is a sample photo:

Kevin, if you don't mind would you let us know what camera(s), lense(s) and film you like to use for your railfanning? They are all grand photos and the resolution is very good [IMG]! Back in my days in southern California I sometimes passed through Bakersfield on my way to the Roseville area. Little did I know at the time about that area and the beginning of the CP railroad.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. Here's the answer to your questions:

My camera (singular, it's all I have) is a Canon AE1P, and I have three lenses; 28mm, 50mm, and 70-210mm zoom. I originally had a power winder, but it died about 2 years ago and hasn't been replaced. I have used the same camera for over 15 years with only minor problems. Since my eyesight is slowly going away (my glasses get thicker every year), I am beginning to wish I had an AF camera [IMG].

For film, the answer is more complicated. The photo on the original post was taken with Kodachrome 64 and then scanned onto PhotoCD by Kodak. Most photos on my website taken between 1986 and 1996 were either taken on Kodachrome 64 or 200, but only the newest two galleries were from PhotoCD. The others were scanned with my flatbed scanner, and have much poorer quality. When I began shooting again in 1999 (three years of other hobbies and a new marriage), I switched over to print film to make scan quality more presentable for my website. Since January 1999, I have been using consumer grade Kodak Gold 100 or 200 bought in bulk packages at the local Costco or Walgreens. I recently tried Fuji 100 print film which worked fine, but will probably stick with Kodak film.

I hope this answered your questions. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions.

Kevin: Thanks very much for sharing the camera and film information. It looks like your AE1 has provide yeoman service for you. Understand about the eyesight thing and considering a AF camera. I am new to railfanning and have started to take rail photos using a Canon EOS 620, which is one of Canon's early AF machines. The film I usually use is Kodak Royal Gold ASA400, but did buy a roll of 200 the other day to see if I would be happier with the reduction in grain. I will also try some Gold 100. That's interesting because for years I would not use 400 because of the grain and now I have found myself using it for the last few years. One of these days hope to put some pictures on the board of shots from this area.

Looking forward to seeing more of your photography. Thanks again.

Another superb picture, Kevin [IMG] I have often wondered what camera and film you use, but never got around to asking!

I went to an AF camera, because of the eyesight [IMG]

Storm, Welcome to Trainboard! There is some great stuff here [IMG]
