What is the "lightning stripe?" I checked a UP locomotive register http://ncespee.railfan.net/UP/upsd60m/up2266.html and saw only the front of one of the sister loco numbers listed on the Atlas site (the sister has UP wings!) but no lightening stripe. Mike Cannone
The top red stripe does a zig-zag from above the grill behind the cab to below the grill.(did that make sense?)I see it in pictures of SD70's more than SD 60's,and on -9's too.
This could be interesting with the offer of two different road numbers of UP SD60M's with wings. I have seen two different variations of this scheme with the difference being in the height of the red stripe. Here are photos of the variations for comparison: First with the high stripe... ...and next with the lower stripe... Disclaimer: Althought I am the photographer, these two photos are hosted at John Barnhill's Nor-Cal UP Connection Website
Me too, I hope it is the one they sue more often. (even though I have never seen a UP locomotive in person )
