    Hello all,
I am going to buy a switcher and I am looking for suggestions. The choices are:

    Atlas S-1, S-2, S-3 or S-4 for $39.99
Life like EMD SW9/1200 for $39.99

Which would you suggest, which one would perform the best overall?

And can anyone tell me what these roadnames are:
    FEC
    NKP
    N&W
    C&H
    EL
    IC
    MP
    WAB

Hi, I've got 3 Atlas S-3's & have nothing but good things to say about them, I've had them since 1989 and they run just as good today as they did then. FEC= FLORIDA EAST COAST, NKP NICKEL PLATE ROAD (part of NS), EL = ERIE LACKAWANNA (CR), IC= ILLINOIS CENTRAL (CNIC), MP= MISSOURI PACIFIC (UP), WAB=WABASH (NS) C&H ????????? Never heard of that one!

The Lifelike Proto switchers are also excellent runners. They tend to run slower, like the real thing did, and also to have more detailing. Operationally, both Atlas and Proto are wonderful machines. One possible factor in the decision is that the fine detailing on the protos is easier to break off in service, so if you'll be having little ones on the layout the Atlas may be a better choice.

    Thanks Fred,
I think I am going to go with the S-3 in SP paint. It is a little bigger than the SW9/1200 and I think it looks a little nicer.

I really like my Atlas S-2. Best runner I have.

The prices you have are excellent for either model. If you don't mind, can you tell us who is offering these locomotives at this price?

I've never owned any of the P2K diesels, but I can vouch for the Atlas S2. It runs slow & sweet, is heavy, and looks great, detail-wise.

I too would like to know who's selling Alco switchers for such a low price- I paid 60 bucks for mine.

BTW, are you sure you don't mean D&H instead of C&H? D&H is the initials for the Delaware & Hudson.

They are both closeout models from ahobbycircle.com...I placed the order, but can't find out until the 25th if they even have them in stock. I have never ordered anything from this company before so we will see how it works out. Others have had nice things to say about them.

Sent an email off to hobbycircle to find out if the item was in stock and when it woud ship, their reply was "YOUR ORDER IS ON ITS WAY"...very enigmatic. I hope that they meant it was on its way (in the mail) and not that it was on its way to processing [IMG] .

NBRAIL, what does a 50 year old SW1200 switcher run now days?

Switcher arrived a couple of days ago. Runs great, slow and strong and looks decent. $40 well spent.
