Okay, it's probably right in front of my eyes, but I can't find it after a bunch of tries, so here goes. I can navigate around the M-T website just fine, and I can find most of what I'm looking for. I'm familiar with the conversion charts for rolling stock.

So I check the chart for a particular piece and it tells me that I need a #1133 conversion kit. Fine, what I can't seem to find is a place that then tells me what a #1133 is.

I go to N scale products, then trucks and couplers, and that's what I get - trucks with couplers, or trucks without couplers. What I can't find is couplers without trucks.

What's a #1133, what's the difference between a #1015 and a #1016? Those are just rhetorical questions, please don't post and tell me what a #1133 is, I actually have a pack of them in front of me. But this came about mainly because I have some 2004-1's. But it turns out that these are 'underslung' couplers. I was looking to find what the equivalent would be that are straight shank, not underslung.

Suggestions? Please tell me that such a listing of coupler conversion kits, or coupler products, exists.

    Thanks

Looks like the coupler catalog is missing from the re-designed site. The MT coupler line is without peer in N Scale, offering couplers that specifically fit equipment going back to the dawn of N Scale Time. Why they would not want to show them beats me........

N Scale Supply may have the best and most complete N Scale pictorial catalog in the business. I find it very easy to use, too.

For MT body-mount couplers: MT BODY-MOUNTS

For MT truck-mount "couplers only": MT TRUCK-MOUNT COUPLERS ONLY

While this does not answer the "where are they" question, I hope you and other readers find the information helpful.

And thanks to N Scale Supply for a great site!

I don't know if this is the problem, but didn't MT change all the numbers not too long ago?

Maybe.....but isn't MT still using the old numbers in the conversion charts?

Also, the coupler packs for 2004 and 1015/1016 probably get run more often, but some of the yellowed hanger cards on some of the sets at my LHS would tend to indicate those packs are several years old. I wonder how often MT runs the 2-8-0 pilot conversion kit for the Atlas/C-C/Riv IHB 0-8-0, or the 1015s w/pilot inserts for the Atlas/Kato RS3/RS11/RSDs or the LL FA2, GP38 & GP18?

I ordered 6 pair of 1052s a couple days ago, and the e-seller knew which ones I meant. I suspect the 1052's he had in stock still said 1052 on the packaging........I never thought about it until now.

I really don't know the extent of the number changes.

I just ordered #2001 couplers from Walther's, If you search it says the number is now #102050

Why MT all the sudden had to change the numbers, I have no clue.

Nope, not really a numbering problem. The couplers by themselves, no matter what the number, simply don’t show up on the M-T website.

Why MT all the sudden had to change the numbers, I have no clue.

According to their website they wanted to go to an 8 digit number for all products to make their inventory/tracking system uniform. Quote: “The primary reasons for the conversion is to standardize the numbering of our product, for flexibility, and to create product grouping for easier identification.”

I have found the 4nscale listings to be more accurate. The numbers get confusing when you add in all the variations. The best example is the Bettendorf #1000 series . It was enough to change the coupler length, then they came out with colors & low profiles.

I had a "program" to buy a pack a month to convert the Atlas & other cars. Then MTL came out with the 10pak & made it a bit easier on the wallet. Makes a difference if your LHS did not discount MTL or keep a large supply of couplers on hand. I wonder how the LHS made any money on the slower selling kits.

I wonder if thet still make any #1500 with Rapido couplers???

I bet you end up calling the LHS to get the ones you want.

Glenn: I bet you end up calling the LHS to get the ones you want.

Actually I did have to email my (not so L)HS last night to get them to put a couple of packs of #1133's in the mail to me.

Before I moved down here I went to the (then still L)HS and bought a "selection" of various M-T packs for conversions. Some I knew I'd need, some I just bought to have a few different ones on hand.

My first choice is to mount Atlas trucks with Accumates if they fit. (It's a lot easier on the eyes and nerves.) If not, it's a fallback position for me to do the M-T conversion. In this case I was trying to do some upgrading on some very old Bachmann cars ("Silk purse from a sow's ear" concept).

These particular cars have old Arch Bar trucks which I wanted to retain. Plus the Atlas trucks didn't fit over the bolster mount anyway. Actually, neither did the M-T Arch Bar trucks with couplers which I happened to have.

But the #1133 was perfect. Unfortunately I only had one package. So the email went out and hopefully within a couple of weeks I'll be able to continue with this particular project.

Long story to explain how and why I happened to be messing around with M-T coupler conversion kit numbers.

    Regards
