Ya, but I don't think that would be right. If someone wants a 'Master Thread' then I feel they should be the ones to maintain it. That might be unrealistic but it does not change my position.
I certainly agree. The problem these days is finding anyone who would be reliable and perform such a task. Anyone interested please use the "Contact Us" button, and chat with our site owner. Betcha the response is zero.
I'm coming in late on this. But it's an interesting subject. I would say that regardless of scale there are good small layouts out there. And also regardless of dimensions. A guy can learn as much from a 2x6 N, as a 4x6 ho, or 6x12 O scale layout. The constraints do carry over between sizes. But also, there may be advantages to doing a 1x24 in ho scale, or as they are commonly know a shelf layout. The same goes for all the scales on that as well. I'd be more interested in a universally shared small footprint layouts group. All scales sharing their trials and tribulations. And while we are at it, another interest of mine is the branch line style layout with only 3 or less locos and a handful of cars. Those modelers who do low traffic lines like that often make hugely detailed layouts. So maybe the category for all of this would be "working with and within constraints". It would be up to the contributors to describe those constraints: time; space; money; physical disabilities, personal quirks, etc. As many of you know, I got tired of the pressure to build a detailed layout and decided to take my toy trains outside where they can live and breath in the sunshine. So that was my boundary that needed overcoming, I just wanted to play with my trains and not fret the details.
Decided to add my 2 cents: Over my many years on various forums, I have noticed that the more segmentation the less participation.
Ya, I'm not taking that bet. I know I am not 'reliable'. I would start the project but life would interfere and poof, so would the information. Yes, I agree with Paul, the more segmented a subject is the less participation is likely to take place. Lots of folks will talk about widgets. Some love the Red ones, others the Blue or Yellow, but then there are the ones strongly into the Maroon with white strips and well, you know how it goes.
If theres not enough interest, you're welcome to talk to me anytime on the subject. I'm forced to have small layouts. Had a 2X4 one for a while, but it was trashed by my wife's grandkid. Now he's trashed also. Need to start on another one. A fold down one from a vertical position.
Well, I thought about this and wanted to re-itterate my feelings on the subject. As an example of cross scale/cross pollination here is an O scale layout in 2 rail. As you can see the author has had to deal with space issues in a different way, but all the problems for space still apply regardless of scale. http://cnyrrjim.com/the_2_rail_layout It's a nice little layout to run some cars around and show off some motive power.
