I recently bought an air brush to hopefully repaint some locos in UP's colors and to use on some structures and weathering projects.

I had replaced an 8" duct fan with a high velocity 11" fan to move warm air from the shop to the train room so decided it could be used as an exhaust fan for a small paint booth for air brushing.

In about an hour and a half I had a paint booth so it was a pretty fast and easy project and I have less than $40 in it and had no further use for the 8" fan anyway. I'll put some pictures of the build on here but not all as there are over 20 but will include a link to the rest at the end of this post.

Nice work! I did something similar, many years ago, with an old bathroom fan, but it was underpowered. That said, it doesn't look like your fan is spark-proof. I would be cautious if using solvent or solvent based paints to avoid causing a fire. If only using water-based hobby paints, this will be fine.

Mine can be found here. I am very happy with it: https://train-orders.com/MRR/PAINT/PAINT.html

I highly recommend using the lowest sone fan you can buy with your budget. For mine an inexpensive four sone was good enough. A lower number may be much better for you. This will keep the noise level way down. No roaring in your ears as you paint. :)
