Doing some detail work and need to emulate some wire cable. Since it is really 1" or so, I'll be looking for .003 to .006" wire-like material that is black. Thread is out, too fuzzy and larger. Don't want to paint brass wire as it will chip, flake or scrape off during handling. Could acid treat it though. Anyone know of an material like black plastic fiber or some other idea that allows me to freely route it? Jeff
I have just the stuff you need Jeff! It's called EZ Line from Berkshire Junction: http://www.berkshirejunction.com/scenery.htm I have both the .003" and the .006" stuff on hand in the dark gray color. It can be tacked with super glue and holds great, it can be painted with floquil, and it looks just like RG-8 cable in Z Scale, which is just what you need for your radio sub-station project. -Robert
When I used to model airliners that have the wire antenna, I used my wifes black hair. She has thin black hair. See if it is thin enought for your work.
There is stuff called EZ-line, it is for stringing up poles. Comes in those thicknesses and different colors. I can't remember the name of the company. It's Berkshire something? Here it is: http://www.berkshirejunction.com/scenery.htm
I sure could use a foot or two of this stuff for my cell tower wiring. Painting this brass wire is somewhat frustrating. I tried a black Sharpie, and it works alright, but the wire still reflects brass in the light. The sharpie ink is just too transparent. I'm going to have to see if anyone else in the club wants to share a spool, though I can't imagine ever using 50 feet of the stuff...... mg: Thanks for the reminder about the Berkshire Junctions stuff. It's very cool.
Bootyful thang! Ordered the $1.99 sampler from Bobe's as I only need a few feet. If all goes well, I'll order the 100' spool from Berkshire. Thanks!
