Ok we all have them, the prototypes had them, now what are they? What are the names of your trains? Or I should say what are the train names on your layout? Here are mine! "Foamer Special" group of private cars in original livery pulled by a challenger and/or big boy "Graffiti Express" A group of box cars covered with graffiti "Acela Express" Should be a give away "Caliornia Zephyr" Same as above "Desert Limited" Fitional Amtrak train all single level with one viewliner, the rest amfleet and a rounded observation lounge car. I may come up with more when I get things running
I have not thought about this in a long time. Sounds like an idea I need to get working on again! Boxcab E50
Up here a Foamer Special would be a beer train... My future layout will have a branch line - Port Asbestos & Possum Lake - so there will be a few interesting train names, like the Silver Bullet for the weekly duct tape shipment... Naturally, the locomotive should be a garbagey-looking unit, painted in red and green, with duct tape patches here and there... :glasses-cool:
Well my railroad will have a pair of flagship passenger trains as trains #10 (northbound) and #11 (southbound) running the whole system mainline from Tallahassee, FL to Pittsburgh, PA. I'm think about something like "The Riverside" running northbound and "The Southern Belle" (not to be confused with KCS's train) running southbound. Of course, since I will be trying to freelance about 1968-ish, the mail contracts are gone and Amtrak is just a couple years away so both trains will be relatively short; just an E8, a couple sleepers, a diner and a couple coaches at most.
lets see. my HO pike only has a handfull of BN and ATSF trains but.... Owl (Modern 1995 version) although fictional as amtrak would be running it. the train usually consists of an SDP40 or SDP45. 2 or on rare occasions, 3 piggyback cars along for the ride. then a baggage car, 4 coaches, and a bar/lounge. Choctaw: Santa Fe local. Santa Fe named a few of there trains Indian related names. It runs from Bakersfield to Mojave. Also a fictional 1995 train. Usually has an aging GP9 on the head end. an old 40' boxcar for baggage, 2 or 3 coaches, and a cafe/bar.
...and if the women don't find your locomotive that motive...they can at least find you loco." I think Coors legal department may challenge the use of Silver Bullet. Of course, being Le Habitant, you could legally challenge their use of the term, "beer". Being a Milwaukee fan and a closet Yooper...mine would need to be the Hamm's Hiawatha-If it gets outta Milwaukee-dat's to bad der, cause den we might run outta coolies before we hit da Lake. Consist 1 RSC-3, RS-3 or DL109 (Must have an Alcohaulit) 3 Tip-Top-Tap cars 1 Gondola (barf /shooting at der deer car) 1 Jail/Bail car (for da Trolls that can't handle der booze) -Mark
only officially named train: "Texas Chief", all streamlined passenger between Gulf Coast and Chicago the former "Ranger" (now unnamed), express and passenger heavyweight, all stops remainder of trains are NOT named, but here is how crews at my modeled terminal refer to them Pre-dawn manifest (inbound) Mid-morning manifest (inbound) Noon KC manifest (outbound) Afternoon KC and North Texas manifest (outbound) Tidelands local freight (refineries, Navy base, rice, occasional cattle) Grain extra (inbound) Cotton extra (inbound) CaneBelt Sulphur (inbound) Banana Boat train (weekly outbound on arrival banana boat from Central America)
As I have expanded my current inventory and working on a new layout, I have only one hold over from my old layout: Silver Streak-Based of Amtrak's Sliver Star. Consist details: 3 P42s, (Phase 5), one baggage car, 3 Viewliners, 1 cafe, 3 coaches, 2 auto cars.
