Spent the day putting together a homemade Static Grass Applicator. Homemade Static Grass Applicator by Rocket Jones posted Oct 25, 2015 at 5:03 PM Had to slightly modify the instructions I had because the ion generator from Oatley no longer fits inside a 1.5" tube. My solution was to add a reinforced cardboard airframe tube from model rocketry to the middle of the handle so the generator would fit. The rest went smoothly. That's the first test patch showing in the picture and it looks pretty doggone good. Too bad my camera and photography skills can't show it. Also glossed a couple of flatcars to prepare for decals, and tomorrow the final pieces of track should arrive for my new switching layout.
These details will stay for painting since they're painted the same as the loco. I won't be adding the front and rear grab irons though because they'll interfere with the NS nose logo when decaling.
Hard to post right after Eugen posted his...but...here goes.... I still have a ways to go. The 'boxes' are Lego blocks that scale out to 3'x3'x3'. The 'tubes' are made from 12 gauge household wire bent 90 degress. I still want to put in a regular coiled up gardenhose ( I have a plan for that ). Have to paint the 'tubes' and will make a 'rack' to hang the ladder on the right. Going to try and make an emergency wash stand with sink and a shower head. No....I have no idea what the tanks hold...LOL
Hey mtntrainman, that a good idea with the Lego Blocks. A lot easier than solder the little brass wires.
Hi, On my workbench....... I just finished putting an old Atlas/Kato RS11 shell on one of the DCC-ready RS11 mechanisms. I just uploaded this Pbase.com album with a photo essay showing the modifications, following the tips and instructions that others have shared and posted on the internet which got me started : http://www.pbase.com/atsf_arizona/atlaskators11shellondccmechanism&page=all Several sample shots: Comments welcome. BTW, Comcast finally, after 12 years, discontinued their personal webspace hosting and my ATSF_Arizona website URL "home.comcast.net/~j.sing" in my signature below has gone "poof". I still have all the material and will (someday) reload it all somewhere else. Especially the ATSF Trainmaster story. In the meantime, my Pbase.com albums will have to suffice: http://www.pbase.com/atsf_arizona All the best, John Sing
just a bout 'done' with the depot (perhaps a tiny bit of touch-up paint needed here and there)...all that's left for the depot scene is to add a baggage cart platform between the rails and track.
I'm building a late phase Rock Island GP35 with the 40 style fuel tank and radiator screens and walkway/frame. I'm trying my first hand at body cutting with some Zona saw blades I picked up.
I have modified a Rix grain bin. Originally, the set contained two small bins. Too small, I think. Therefore I have glued them together. That made it necessary to lengthen the elevator with some white styrene. I also added the tubing and chute (1.6mm rod from Evergreen). Finally, I glued the bin and elevator down on a small sheet of styrene and added a former Heljan balcony on the ground to resemble the unloading spot for trucks. Next step: paint.
I was shooting some orange paint. I went back and did some more detailing on the -9's, so they will go back for another run through the paint shop before the green gets dropped.
Sadly, We won't be able to participate in this weekend's Pensacola show-my Mom had a fall at her home, fractured her hip, then suffered some stroke episodes after hip surgery. The good news is that she received the surgery required to clean her carotids and is on the mend-facing two to three weeks of PT in a nearby facility. We should be able to get her back home by the second week of December. So, suffice to say, no real progress on any modeling projects... I did have a moment after work and between hospital visits to decompress with a half hour of finishing and installing this Blair Line billboard for the upcoming town of Hutto. Before hr fall, I had also finished the Blair Line General Store, which will sit at the highway junction (facing the highway, away from the general public at a setup)
Here are some pics of the General store in progress; since these pics, a few more signs have been added. once in place, there will be an American flag, electrical meters and conduit, and a couple of gas pumps (the General store is also a gas station)
