This year's show was even better than last year (the first one). This year the public were allowed in, which swelled the visitor numbers. My trade stand did ok, and it was good to meet customers and old friends. Here are a few pics of layouts which impressed me. Jim Dickinson's modules from the Black Diamonds NMRA N Trak layout. (There just happens to be an intermodl train passing, which is made up primarily of AC items)
Is the rotary dumper N-scale? Does it operate? Is it a kit? (I'm slowly building an operating roatary dumper for three ore cars from scratch and will probably continue, even if a kit is available.)
Ray, I am not sure if the rotary dumper is an operating one (yes it is N scale). I will ask Jim. But looking at the picture, the uncoupling magnet appears to go across the join if it were an operating unit, so it is probably just a scenic item
These are all beautiful pix Alan. Thanks for posting them. [ 14. April 2003, 17:08: Message edited by: Telegrapher ]
Alan: I didn't catch the uncoupling magnet, but I couldn't find any gaps in the rail that would indicate that the dumper rotated.
Ray, you are correct about the lack of rail gaps! I guess a working one in N scale would be a bit difficult.
Last saturday Gary. It was a very good friendly show, and was great to have an all-N scale show. All layouts and traders were N scale only
Ray, I am curious as to the design of your Rotary unit.Is there a prototype you are modeling it after? The reason i ask is that most Modern ore units in northern Minnesota are run as Quads and they would need to be rotated all as 1 unit.Perhaps they do things differant in Wisconsin.Wouldnt be the first time
Three car units are not a prototype--just a decision for my small layout: copper ore from Michigan upper pennisula mine to the ore dock. Now that I am trying to build an operating rotary dumper, it might be a little easier with three cars, rather than four in a cut.
