I am trying to help a freind out he is looking for n scale 3 truck shays for his lay out i have been all through my walthers 2002 reference books a severl websites and canot find any listings for n scale shays of any type does anyone know of any manufacture that make nscale shays ?
except for nmtexman's suggestion, the only shays I've seen are shells that go on Z scale locos. I think they look very poor. No moving parts. Either N-Scale or N Scale Railroadings current issue has an article on kitbashing a logging mallet, if you're interested. Granted, it's not a shay but........ Good luck. If you find any nice shays let us know!
Sandro, I have to comment on that Brass Shay! Is that the Western Maryland #6? 3 truck, 162 ton last and largest Shay built from the Lima shops? OR is that a plain ordinary Pacific Coast type Shay? It sure reasembles my Brass "HO" 3 truck Shay thats modeled for the Western Marylands #6.... [ 23 May 2002, 02:01: Message edited by: 7600EM_1 ]
John I'm not 100% sure but I think it's the Maryland Shay. I'd had to take a look at the box. Anyway it's an Overland model. It runs almost very well. However the rearest truck does some binding. If I find the time I'll fix it. Most of the time the Shay just sits in a display case. It's a beauty isn't it ? BTW. I also own a 3 truck brass Shay and a Bachmann 3 truck Shay both in HO Scale. Also a G scale Bachmann Shay sits on a shelf. The last addition to my Shay collection will be a two cylinder, two truck LIVE STEAM Shay coming in July......
------------ >Allen, looking for something like this ? It's N scale....veeeeeeeeery expensive ------------ That is one fine machine.
Sandro, Your Brass HO scale Shay run really well??? Mine runs really well for the few times I've ran him... I don't run him to offen tho... Being I don't like to handle it much being professionally custom painted by me for the Western Maryland number 6 as delivered from Lima... It sure is an eye catcher though just creeping along unseen for awhile and all at once apears out of nowhere! It scared me a few times... Being I have a higher level of track the winds through a mountain on my layout and I let it just creep along with about 8 to 10 small 2 bay hoppers (being WM used it for the Corbin grades that were plenty steep in that coal field) and I had stoped everything and forgot about it running and was doing some track cleaning on my B&O dual mainline and it just quietly snuck around and scared me. I forgot it was running! I have a friend that has one of the Lionel 3 truck WM shays that was offered in I think it was 1993... Very nice loco for its size... I've been thinking of investing in it from him...Just to have it being I model HO... I fancy big steam, Mallets and Articuleds, and Shays, so the WM #6 was a must! HA! But then again... I love Shays in general... no matter what size! They were just fasinating to me.... And I'm going to try and get ahold of a HO scale Rivarossi 3 truck Heisler as well one day....
