I'm fairly happy wih my HO scale layout, but - if I had the money I'd also have a 2-rail O gauge railroad in my backyard. Yeah, yeah - but.

i know what you mean I spent some time dreaming of O scale trains, then the price tag got me. I love steam, even small locos, a o scale 0-6-0 would kill my finances right now. A GP 9 isn't too bad in cost. i do still pop over to the o scale magazine forum and peer at all their lovely trains. *sigh*

Then again if you have a yard you have no excuse, you could build that layout out doors. (Gotta plug for outdoor railroading every chance I get. :p )

Actually, anything that gets the N scalers out of the bunker they call the N scale forum and out amongst the other subfora is a good thing. Same goes for the other one-subforum-only folks..... :)

    "If." Oh what a word!

If I had both space and cash, I'd go back to collecting post-War Lionel (1945-1969) and set it up in a huge layout to operate. The dream of many a boy when I was young.

    Exactly.
Recently, the Woodland scenics fire topic was a brilliant reminder of how insular the N (and Z) forums get. I mean why would you think that was a scale specific topic? Come on...

Well, there ended up being topics in at least five different TrainBoard forums. Not limited to just N & Z, also HO was included.

Forum centrism is a problem, as people start all kinds of off subject threads therein. And we end up having to move them.

Everyone knows that Z scale is the only true railroading scale. :pwink:

N-scaler here. I started in HO as a kid (christmas tree layout) but was introduced to N when I was about 12. I kept everything I had even when I was more interested in chasing girls, etc. When I got back into the hobby I picked up all my old N scale stuff and sold my HO. Space constraint being the reason. I usually always marvel at the HO stuff when I got to the LHS, but I don't see myself switching over.

I think the main reason is generations. No offense, but I have no interest in Lionel like others do. And when I see $500 diesels sitting on the shelf in O scale it compounds that fact. But I have respect for all scales and respect the reasons people chose them.

Wouldn't get too worked up over it... some people have allegiance to things and are willing to cut others down who don't agree with it. Just enjoy the hobby and know that most are just as interested in seeing an O scale layout as a Z scale and so on.

Very true. It is a fact of life that people will say things on a forum they would never think of saying to someone face-to-face. Maybe because you can't see a face or see/hear expression? Even well-meaning comments can be easily taken the wrong way because of this.
Thanks to all the moderators here - I'm sure it can be a frustrating job at times.

I belong to a couple of car forums, and one thread was started as a simple question, "how do I change a sensor in a Chrysler 300? And the next ten posts were guys telling him to scrap his piece of junk car, and get a (whatever their favorite brand was). Those are the kind of responses I have zero use and tolerance for.

    Easy answer: Chrysler. :mtongue:

I prefer HO because of the amount of items available for it, and it seems to me that there is less hassle finding X-engine for X-road. However, I haven't the space for HO - at least not enough to model what I want, so I chose N. I love what you can do with N - the scenery possibilities are amazing, but I'm constantly frustrated by the lack of equipment (hunting things down can be a full time job in itself). If I only had a few more feet here and a couple more there...

    Terry,I fully agree.

Several years ago on another popular forum a new modeler asked if a certain MRC(Rail Power?) power pack would work on his 4x6'(yes 4x6') layout running one Bachmann locomotive and the first 5 replies stated he needed DCC not a old fashion DC power pack.

Needless to say my reply to the first five posters wasn't nice..I should have calm down first.

Some times its better to walk away then start pounding on the keyboard.
