My E8A+B Units came in the mail yesterday. (Ebay $41.00 includes S&H) Both units are powerd. They were previously used & look like older runs made by Atlas. After testing them on my track I have determined they are good running. I tested with momentum on from start to stop. They do have worm gears so they work well with momentum on. The only proble I had was the units violantly shook almost coming off the track on my Atlas switches. So as a hunch I took a jewlers screwdriver & I spread the wheels (6 wheel trucks) apart, I then tested them on the switch at slow speed then high speed and the problem is gone. The A unit has no light so I will install a warm white LED light from Evans LED's. These LED lights have a small (3mm) circuit board as a surge protector. I will us the BLMA hand rails (95 of them) , horn, sun shades, air hoses. These units will under go a major face lift to become an Alco Gas Turbine 3 unit set. I just need time & money to get all the parts I need for this kit bash to start 10/1/11

Pics of E8A+B units to be kit bashed

Here are the pics I took today of the E8A+B units I bought off of Ebay. I think this will be a good starting point to a Turbine with. I took a close up (kinda fuzzy) of the 6 wheel trucks. I know there will be some that would think I need to kit bash the trucks but the truth be known I dont feal comfortable cuttinto the trucks. Im not bad at kitbashing but not on trucks that could afect the running if I screw it up, I will paint them silver. Now, I need some advise. The previouse owner removed the front coupler & glued the front skirt onto the truck. Should I remove this from the truck & put it back on the body shell & risck damaging the truck or just leave it. I do need to do work on the skirt either way so its not so bevled out. Please give advise on this.

Don't know where you got the idea that these were Atlas models... they are not. While the A-unit is based partially on the original Atlas model these were in fact marketted by Concor.

I didnt come up with the idea of them being Atlas......It is stamped on the bottom of the fuel tanks (metal weights) ATLAS Made in Austria. All I know is what I see. Really does not matter, the pupose of this thread was to show my starting units for the Gas Turbine 3rd generation 3 unit kit bash.

I would bet that someone has used the Concor E8B shell on an Atlas chassis... I can say for a fact that Atlas never marketted a B and that the Concor model didn't come out until after I entered Naval service in 1979. Is the B powered?

The B unit is powerd. The shells do match the frame exactly. Im not sure what is what. My point here is this....These are the units im starting with for my kit bash. So I guess the shells do not matter because they will be cut on, added to, taken away from ect.....They will be Gas Turbines in the end. Im not trying to start an argument here, but if you go to the top of this thread you will understand. I am simply gathering info to build this & this is simply what I purchased as a starting point. All I know is that I have a lot of work to do this fall.

Jusy an FYI to Jerry On the inside of the A & B Shells it is stamped Atlas-Made in Italy. Im sorry you wernt aware that Atlas put this A+B unit out but stampings dont lie. This po/st as I stated is about a kit bash comming up on my work bench, NOT ABOUT WHAT SHELL IS ON WHAT CHASIE. Lets try to keep to the thread topic I started a week ago.

Omne thing is certain... I am looking forward to seeing how things go with this... they were unique locomotives and I'll bet that they will be very interesting to see them modeled in N!!!
