Hello all, Just a quick note to let everyone know that once again the N scale branch of the model railroad hobby will have a major presence at the Galesburg Railroad Days Train Show at Carl Sandburg College, Galesburg, Illinois, on the 24th and 25th of June. As in past years there will be a composite N Trak layout which will take up one half the basketball court in the Gym. The layout is being coordinated by Heritage N Trak with major assistance from N Trak of Bloomington/Normal. In addition there will be two additional N scale layouts constructed by individual modelers from downstate Illinois. There will be a static display of the old CB&Q Galesburg depot which was demolished many years ago. The N scale model is being constructed by Bill Selleck from Charlotte, Michigan. The building is a work in progress and bill has been displaying the model each year for the last few years. Each display finds the model further toward completion. I know that there will also be a display of custom painted and weathered n scale rolling stock for viewing in the display case in the College library. Among the 70 vendors offering merchandise, there are several that specialize in N scale. The come not only from around the Midwest but we will also have N scale exclusive dealers from as far away as Georgia and New Mexico. Last, but not least, Jim Wiggin of Testors Corporation, will be presenting workshops on painting and weathering n scale rolling stock in the College lecture hall. Just to chime in on Harry's post, this is an excellent show to attend if your an N scaler! See a sampleing of this at http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=77908 Here you will see a step by step on how I paint this years Galesburg Tribute Locomotive in N. Also there will be two seminars, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Each person who attends the seminar is put into a drawing to win a complete airbrush, compressor and asessories package. A retail package worth over $250.00. Also Saturday night we will have a Trainboard member meet at 5:00 after the show, PM me for details. Hope to see you there! Jim
Unfortunately, I've only been able to attend one Galesburg Railroad Days (1998), but I highly recommend it for anyone who can make it. God willing, I'll get there again "one of these days." For those of you close to this year's event; what's planned so far as prototype activity??
GE is doing the downtown display this year, the IL Railway and Monticello Museum have not done a display since 2002 because of insurance. The Galesburg Website states that a GE C-44-9 will be on display. I had heard that it was to be the new ES44 in either the demo scheme or the new BNSF scheme. That could be true as the media may not know the difference between the two. There will also be the yard tours by bus and the BNSF displays of various departments set up at the depot.
