Ok, folks, those who have hoardes of equipment that they have no room to run, can't yet run *me* or just want to display their most prized pieces with the world, can now make a nice display that reqiures no tedious dusting, no 2nd mortgage on the house, and something simple to assemble! BTW, this was borrowed from the latest issue of N Scale Mag. I saw the article, and went into it head over heels. What you need: drill and bits, cheapo brackets for a small shelf, a level, string, and scissors, 3 sections of Atlas flex and a piece about 2" long, an 8' flouresent light bulb protector tube *at the electical section of your favorite home improvement store* and a rerailer, or needlenose pliers and tweezers.
I got brackets from a home store that were $1.49. All I needed was 3. I marked the holesand leveled the markes, made the holes, inserted plastic drywall inserts (they came with the brackets!) into the holes, screwed the bracket to the wall, ensuring plumbness, and repeated for all 3. The brackets were spaced 30" apart. I connected the track to about 91"~ +/-, and slid it into the tube. I put a drop of CA on the end ties to stabilize the track. I then took the tube and track, and set it on the brackets, ensuring level, and used string to secure it from the forces of gravity and 'Catzilla'. I used cheapo string, and secured the ends out of sight.
I have pics in my page below, and go to projects and trains for the results. I put my Northern Pacific 'North Coast Limited' in it, and added a Burlington E8 and a couple corrugated cars to make the consist complete. I want 2 or 3 more now...... :D

Your link worked fine for me. Found the photos of the display tube in your projects folder on Yahoo. I suppose that would work wwith a four foot tube protector as well?

    Sure could!
I just chose the 8', it was $2.29 vs $1.99 for the 4'. I also can put much more stuff in the 8'. It looks much more impressive. I spent total, with track, and materials: 15$ for the 8'.
I also varnished the brackets, as they came only in unfinished wood.

    Thanks, Alan!
The pics don't really well depict the NCL, but I guess it'll do. It looks really nice in person.
