Apparently Ken, all over the place. The chances of catching the same train thru the Tunnel District in multiple places without a rocket pack or helicopter are almost astronomical! The more I look at it, the more I see needs done. Starting with weathering. Tunnnel motors were never that clean in 1980.... ;D Also need to work on detailing.
Did a little more running today; at my son's request, we ran "his" engine--a DT&I GP38 we picked up at the N Scale Convention in Portland in 09. orange is his favorite color, and he fell in love with that little Geep when he saw it. The price was right, so.... I wanted a change of pace from the usual coal train, so I tossed a group of 86' auto parts boxcars on the rails, added a couple 'Grande GP40s and a caboose, and let 'em crawl around the mainline. The 86' cars fit fine int he tunnels, but with not a lot of room to spare on the curves. I tried a Vert-A-Pac car, and alas, it rubs on Tunnel 19 eastbound, and derails. I can almost see the GM insurance claim for a bunch of damaged Chevy Vegas now... (no real loss, right?) I need to trim the tunnel portal to make it fit. The cars were a mix of Bluford Shops and Trainworx cars. They were quite colorful, just what my boys like!
Railfanning Tunnel 19! Train #702, Energy Mine-PSCX Cherokee Plant, eastbound coal loads have this WB manifest parked at West Crescent: Midtrain units: Swing helper:
Re: N scale D&RGW Secret Places Sub layout progress Great work love the scenery. My future layout that I will Hopefully start in the fall is based on the mountains of British Columbia Canada and will have lot of pine trees and forest setting as well. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Keith, Not tried yet. It was static for photos just to have fun. I don't think my early Atlas GP35/40's with lightspeed motors will work well with slow speed motors in the SD50's.... :-o The PSCX cars are all stock Athearn hi-side steel gons with MT lo-pros. I have 25, but only a handful in the scene for the photo. I also have a 25 cars train of NORX gons and 20 D&RGW blue end cars too. The Athearn hi-sides are heavy and seem to track well.
Train #718 was captured descending thru Upper South Boulder Canyon yesterday.... From over the top of Tunnel 26, the coal load exits into the wintery scene:
Nice shots Hemi! Man I can't wait to get enough scenery done so I can start shooting pics and playing like this! I'm so close...
Oh I suppose I cooooooould do the same thing right now, but unpainted track on cork on ceiling only goes so far. Siiiiiigh.
Thanks guys! The smaller layout also has the added advantage of being closer to completion much earlier than a larger layout. This is the farthest to completion ANY layout I have ever built has gotten. Ever. The lighting needs adjustments, but here's a lower angle on Tunnel 26: Splitting the Spire:
