"Locomotives schmocomotives, keep the fantastic trucks coming!
Also I sure hope the car in that last proto image arrives in a giant velvet bag inside the trailer :ROFLMAO:"

Well said RJ (jwaldo), this comment changed my mind on this project, for the good IMHO.

Originally I was going to do this scheme:

However I have decided to do this scheme, same car, same driver, same sponsor :

Why change? RJ did it, I have made a decal that shows that race car coming out of the Crown Royal purple bag that will fit, quite nicely, in the large purple area where you see the #26. Gotta love it !

I have started, here are some shots. I do not have a Volvo tractor so it will be what t is, closys !

It will be some time for more work as I must complete the tractor for my Earnhardt rig. Keep you posted.
    Be well !

1st effort at special decal. It will be very small in order to fit on the hauler :

    Good evening, mi amigos !

I have started working on the Crown Royal NASCAR hauler.
As a refresher, I have decided to do this version :

Here is where I am at as of today Thursday 3/14, yes there are some "fixes" needed :

Now I am asking you guys for your recommendations on how to proceed with the colorizing. Here is what I plan :

    1. All of the colors will be masked off using masking paper and tape.
    2. I shall mask off the small whoop die-do on the cab and spray the yellow over the white.
    3. Then I will mask off the white shape over the axles and along the top side leaving the areas white on the trailer. Also, mask over the yellow area on the cab.
    4. Then spray the Plum Crazy where it belongs.
    5. Finally go back and mask each area to add the orange and yellow.
    6. I have or am making all the decals that are required. A couple will not be exactly as on the
1:1 but are VERY close. White decals are tough with DIY printer.
Clear as mud, I know, But any suggestion appreciated !
    Be well !!!

Nice progress Carl! Sounds like you have a good plan there. Not sure I have anything of use to add. :)

I agree. I like what you are doing but don't have anything to add.

    Carl,

An amazing project there! I have one idea, do the opposite. Make the white decals black.
Paint the trailer with a base coat of white. Now place the black decals on the trailer and the cab.
Apply all the other colors and when the paint is dry remove the black decals and you have your white.

I hope that this makes sense.

It's finished ! Ooops, it isn't 04/01 yet so I guess I am the biggest fool of all.

I posted this image just to show my "current" plans and how my decals will work out. I colorized my image on the PC by free handing the colors with the mouse. Not very pretty but it has given me a chance 'to see' what I need to concentrate on. This was printed on plain white paper. The real tricky part will be after I spray the purple and trying to match the shade on the decal background. BTW, these are not the decals but rather just side printer produced on plain white paper.

If you haven't had your grin for the day, here it is :

Ooops, I did the top whoop die do backwards. The center should be yellow with a thin band of orange.

1st - thanks to all for the "likes", comments and suggestions, VERY much appreciated.

2nd - I have started the "fun" paint phase. As a quick reminder here is what I hope to clone :

I have changed my mind several times regarding the attack to this fairly complex masking job. Here is an image showing my work on the cab using masking paper and masking tape, sort of scary looking :
I actually screwed up the tail of the headdress over the fuel tank area but should be fixable with next masking and color.

So here are the results of my masking job. I airbrushed the yellow today and after it cures and dries for 5-6 days, depending on our "dusty storms" and temps., I will mask off for the orange. It came out better than I expected on the cab, the curbside of tractor looks much better.

Fun, fun, fun 'till her daddy took her T-bird away ! ! !

Thanks for looking and any suggestion are always welcome !

Purple IS coming Hemi ! !

The start of my masking and airbrushing :
Today, I masked and sprayed some small stripes on the trailer :

Next up will be masking and spraying very tiny orange colored stripes on each of the yellow blobs that you see.

    Then finally Hemi, the purple.

    Thanks for following along.

Purple not coming as soon as I had hoped because I was knocked down rather hard today in attempting to add the orange color to the "headdress" on the tractor, You will see why I am not happy with the effort so I'll wet sand the sides of the tractor and may have to recoat the white and then make another attempt. I am using frisket paper or as some call it masking paper. I'll have to think this out a bit, may add a tad of red to get the orange a little darker ? ? ?

Driver side, really mucked it up, keep in mind this is N scale :

Curb side, a tad better but not acceptable :

I am not worried about the outside width of the yellow surrounding the orange because when I mask for the purple application I can adjust the width that I want. In fact I am thinking about airbrushing the sides of unit in yellow and then mask off for the orange whoop die do and then apply purple over the yellow that is not part of the headdress.

    Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Yep, I really mucked up the driver side of the cab headdress:

I wet sanded with 2,000 grit paper and here it is re-masked for airbrushing along with the trailer, both ready to put the orange color on :

Here is the spray job, not too bad but some brush touch up will be necessary:

Next I will mask off the orange headdress and add a yellow stripe around it. So purple next ?
Nope, I have a spot where the paint lifted when I pulled the masking off, so some more taping and painting BEFORE the purple.
    Aw shucks this sucks :

Oh well I am enjoying the challenge and as an old fart I am slow. I need to wrap up the trucks so I can get back to some locomotives that I need to complete.

Thanks for following along, be well !
