I was just thinking back to when I would have Lionel trains set up around the Christmas tree, and up pops your post. Nice timing! :)

That's cool that Lionel reproduced those. (y) When I was young, I found my brother's late 1950's Lionel catalogs and was always drawn to the Timken car. I didn't understand the nature of it, but it was colorful and I liked the spinning Roller Freight graphic. (The image below is not mine.)

Wow. I once had a very decent sized collection of their post-WWII catalogs. So many hours of wonderment, thumbing through those pages!

:) My oldest brother kept a few from the late '50s and one from '60. I still have them, but they're in terrible shape, mostly from me thumbing through them a thousand times. This is the cover of the 1960 catalog (not my photo) and I remember being entranced by the matching O and HO trains. Even after 60+ years, the artwork in Lionel's catalogs endures.

It is getting to be the time of year when we think about putting up our Christmas tree. I wanted to do ours today but life got in the way. It looks like it will have to wait until Thursday.

I know that the Timken car was to demonstrate the advantage of Timken Roller Bearing Trucks but I wonder if the car was used in regular freight service?

My post-war catalogs are also gone. I would pour over them day after day, especially leading up to Christmas, dreaming about all the wonderful trains and hoping Santa would bring me some. Happy memories.

I agree, Lionel's artwork was outstanding. It was very effective advertising back in the day and still inspires us today.

The city put a Christmas tree in a corner of the station parking lot.

Looks like Dean and Sam Winchester are in town... that's never a good sign for the things that go bump in the night...

Ice cream, model trains and railfaning all in less than 100ft. What more could you ask for?

Thanks LL. It's a great place to watch trains, grab a snack and maybe pick up something new for the layout.

On Saturday I went with a couple of O gauge friends to a train show in Brooksville, FL and then to Zitnik's Trains in Pinellas Park, FL. It's a long drive across the state but it was a fun day. At the show I found this Railking NY Jets boxcar. Being a life long Jets fan I couldn't pass it up.

At Zitnik's I found Lionel hopper and gondola cars for a very reasonable price and they are New York Central.

I also found a pack of 3 mounted police officers by O Line Reproductions. This is one of them on patrol near the park. The other two are in different parts of the city until I decide on a permeant place for them.

    That's it for now.

This was an easy and fun project. I think the cars look a lot better with people in them.
