these are pics of my new yard and engine facility for our n scale group, the yard is 28' total with the engine facility on the 4' corner. these were taken at the mattoon, il. show on feb 15. there is still work to bedone on them, as i need some yardmaster towers and other yard structures, also some more detail to be done to engine facility, hope you like! That's great! That engine facility is almost exactly what I'm planning for a small area on my layout. Probably have the same amount of area available....even less. These pics serve as an inspiration to get going on mine! I should probably look closer again, but are there inspection pits in there? Russ [ 28. Those modules are excellent, I actually have the same Bachmann kit which I have assembled but not yet installed. I would love to have a yard that size on my layout
russ they don't have them yet, i'm waiting for the new peco pits to come this side of the water. i seen them in chicago at the expo and they look great, so i will wait on them, i have another enginehouse that i picked up at that same show and it is now on the corner as well. i would like to get some pieces and parts from the bachmann kit so i can do just a little more sanding towers. colonel thisis just the basic yard, i have another 6' and 4' module to go in when we have the space, or the way it is built can be as small as 16' just a corner and 2-6' switch lead modules. i hope to have the whole thing setup at galesburg this year. i am going to a show in lagrange in a couple weeks so i hope to get more pics there, mainly of my custom paints though, thank God for our new camera and memory sticks!!!!!!!!!!
That is all very impressive! I would love to have a locomotive facility like that, but just don't have the space (or the need) on my new layout, now being planned. And that yard is great! Wow!
guys, these pics FAIL to show the miserable weather that was present, weather that PREVENTED ME from assembling any trains on those 3 lead yard legs. I built a 70 trailer DI roadrailer on Mitch's yard recently, easy as pie with all that length and all those leads. Mitch, the yards look great!! Glad that they are glitch free. The engine service facility is kicka$$ !! Amazing how much you've gotten done since the Morris show. Looking forward to LaGrange dude, hope the Hartman Yardmaster grants me permission to enter The centerbeam train is up to 40 units, should be quite a sight!!
The Peco (N) inspection pits were in my local shop (over here) last week, so they should be stateside within weeks... The loco area is looking great, really nice work there.
that is really good i love the loco facility. i wish i had space for something like that yard!, even in module form! keep up the great work, i cant wait to see more pics! [ 28. February 2003, 19:59: Message edited by: UNION_PACIFIC_STEVE ]
Great work! It's really nice to see a well-put-together yard like that. And the engine facility is great....especially since it has some MKT in the mix!!! FYI, my dealer (in the States) has had the inspection pits for almost two weeks. He asked me if I wanted them shipped immediately and I told him to hold on for some other items....but he has them!
Hey guy it's always great to see someone who takes the time to get it right. I'm probably going to show my ignorance but I was wondering how do you keep all those engines on the same tracks and still only control the ones you want to,I'm guessing but is this why DCC was invented?
belg, i am glad to say this but there is no dcc power in my fleet, i own not a single decoder equipped loco. this is from properly wired and placed peco electrofrog turnouts and also some mainline power dpst switches to kill the power on the main when a train is "tied up" there. i will have more pics of this hopefully in a couple weeks from now.
grantha here are some pics of the other side that shows some new mods that are not yet finished, these are of streator illinois on the sante fe main through town, this is exactly how the tracks are in streator and when finished it will look like you are standing on the main through town. and then these are of the mainline at coal city illinois, these are done and look amazing in person, both in modular and the real thing, oh and then i have to plug these ugly soo engines i did for ed pinkley(clint)
Mitch, That is an awesome layout and I'm sure you get a lot of positive comments. How many of the modules do you own or do they all belong to the N scale group? I would love to be able to do the same thing one day it just looks like so much fun.
colonel i own the yard and the engine facility, i also have 4 more at home that make up a large grain elevator and industrial area. everyone in the group owns their own little part of this thig, not much is owned by the group themselves, that is what keeps the clubpolitics out of it, no common property. we get alot of comments when we setup and this is only a small part of the layout, we goto galesburg rr days and fill a space that is 44'x54' which is almost half of the gymnasium at the college. we are going to do a show in lagrange, il. next weekend and the layout will be about 30x 36 from what i understand. i will get some more pics of streator and some of our other mods then.
That looks wonderful! I love the trackage where the third track swings away, then crosses the diverging track. Will the diverging track be able to link up with other boards, or is it just "scenic"?
The first side is great, but that Streator scene looks like it will be stunningly good place to watch trains. Is Coal City where the GM&O line through Joliet leaves the Santa Fe? Am I thinking of the right place? [ 02. March 2003, 13:13: Message edited by: Martyn Read ]
martyn you are absolutely correct. that's the spot. and alan the diverging track goes back to a staging track that can be put on if size permits so you can build a train and leave it hidden until you're ready for it to highball. i will get some shots of a 4' module with all handlaid Nn3 track and post here next week. maybe also get the brewery on here and some other stuff.
