Hi all, From beginning my undec GP38-2 (which is converted into a GP40-2) didn't run great forward. Inspirend by the SD70 cleaning action in the SD70 thread, I deceded to take the chassis appart for closer inspection. Well, in China they used also a tacky type of grease on this loco. I have cleaned the chassis parts, worms and trucks in an ultra sonic cleaner. After re-greasing it, it is a great runner now! Now it can nicely run in consist with my Grande GP30.
Hi Dom, I have used Pressol 'Heimwerkeröl'. It is a German brand of 'universal' oil which picked up at the local hardware store. The oil is acid and resin free. First I did clean and re-lube my Märklin rolling stock, which runs fine now as well. So far it works fine for for the AZL chassis.
Thank you Frank. Will be useful for a future servicing, even if my units spend most of their time resting... Dom
