I was up in Waterville Maine and caught my very first "Rollby" as a railfan: This is not sequential and may include pics from the yard. Notice the yard goat off to the left.
Nice photos Steve. But I suggest you be more specific when you say "Yard Goat off to the left"....I mean, I looked left and saw Roberta also...... :teeth:
Nice stuff! That PanAm car must be rare, I certainly haven't seen any before, or they stay on the east coast... Do you have any shots of 'Rrrr' with those trains? That is, pics with her other side!
Waterville Maine II - One Year Later Sounds like an old "B Movie" Roberta and I visited our friend again in the Belgrade Lakes region of Maine. Here are shots from the yard: Me in ME (Rrrr selects my cloths) Top of the yard: I'll post a few more later.
We guys sometimes need lots of help selecting "proper" clothes. Nice to see a yard with dead end track and bumpers - looks more like what we're used to seeing in the "real" world (model railroading)!
A Link to a Google Map of the Yard http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...69.623913&spn=0.001693,0.004077&t=h&z=18&om=1 Some of these cars look pretty beat up. Could it be they are waiting for the torch? Took a bunch of pics between cars:
Golden West is explained below........ http://www.railgoat.railfan.net/spcars/goldenwest_cars.htm And thanks for a lovely photo of Rrrr.
Note the SSW lettering on that car, and the fact that it's obviously a relettering. Golden West was some sort of SP-owned company (leasing?) which was absorbed by its parent, and Golden West cars were relettered to SP. Until now, I hadn't seen one with SSW lettering, though. EDIT: Someone beat me to a full explanation, it seems.
Guilford You have got me scanning the images to see if you caught any ex-D&H equipment that ended up in the Guilford paint scheme. Let me know if you do have any as I would like to get them added to the DHVM if it's alright with you! :lightbulb: :lightbulb: :lightbulb: :lightbulb: http://www.trainweb.org/dhvm/history/history_guilford.htm
Thanks Hytec and Triplex. Hytec you are welcome. It was my pleasure to finally have a picture she approved of for sharing. Darren - you are fully welcome to repost my pictures. I did not notice any D&H. I'll reexamine the unposted ones for you.
Like the pics- last time I was railfanning Waterville, it was definitely NOT shirtsleeves-and-shorts weather Did you get a pic of MEC 570 at the south end of the yard? Jeremy- I first saw PanAm cars in Januaary 2006, when I was in Maine. So far, I don't remember seeing PAnAm cars elsewhere, unless I wasn't paying attention. But then again, using the name of a failed airline for a railroad doesn't trip my trigger much.... can't wait to see Braniff RR or Eastern Rail Lines next.
