Took this at King Street Station in Alexadria, VA. Took several, but this is only one of two that turned out. The trains are just too blurred in the others, I guess I need to use a much faster shutter speed.
And the second picture. Kind of dark. Well, maybe next weekend I can get some more and do a little better!
There's no doubt about the heritage of that SD60M ... Conrail red classification lights still intact! Good catch! Harold

Picture 1: It's an okay picture, but it's better if you take photos with no obstructions in the way. Picture 2: That's actually really good for a first try.
Yeah those pillars really don't help the picture at all. Funny thing is, I didn't even notice them as I took the picture. In retrospect, I should have chosen a better spot to wait it out. I was waiting for something to pass by, and the train really caught me by surprise. I had been down there before, cameraless, and a CSX freight announced it's arrival well in advance, on the horn long and loud. So I assumed this time would be the same. Naturally I was wrong. This one just came barrelling along. I grabbed my camera and frantically tried to get a shot or two in. It was also the 1st time I realized just how annoying the two second delay when powering up the camera is! Those two seconds seemed like an eternity!
Your photos will get better with time... don't take it hard or personal. I took a photo like your first one and someone asked me: "Do you use a filter on your camera?" I replied: "Yes, a daylight filter". (I was proud) They replied: "Well, you'd better try and find a pole filter, because that is what I see first in your picture! " Needless to say, I was devastated, but learned a valuable lesson: either shoot without distractions, or use digital enhancements to remove them! Harold
It was a lot of fun to do. I need to try it on a weekday sometime when there might be more action. These were Sunday evening pictures, so maybe the traffic was a little bit light. The station employees didn't seem to mind my being there, I just made sure to stay out of everybody's way (including the paying passengers).
