Their registration page was a bit confusing. The fee depends on how many of the heralds you want to use and units to be sold. I understand the first part. There are only 5 of the heralds I wish to use but I am not sure what they mean by the "units" part. Are they asking how many different types of items I wish to produce or does it mean how many total items am I guessing I will be selling (gross sales) in the 3 year period? You got me on that one. There is a phone number to call which I am going to do. If it is the way I am guessing it would probably cost me $150 for a 3 year liscense, renewable for an additional 7 years. Which is not bad at all. I just need to call them and figure out the unit thing.

That is the upside. The train watching it great. You can't beat the coal line out of PRB for either road to see a lot of the new power.

You are right about the football. I knew it was big here but didn't quite realize it until we moved here. I knew it was something when you went in to a McDonalds and they even had huge TV's playing the games on Saturday.

Like I said, the people are some of the best I have encountered, and I have traveled from coast to coast, but the art community and support is seriously lacking. Except for a guy like Terry Redlin. You can't go in to a house around here without seeing one of his prints on the wall.

Yep, and talk about the corn.....

Don't know if any of you watch the show Family Guy but there was a perfect skit about that. Stewie, the baby, was telling a story about going to Nebraska once. It flashes to a diner and he is sitting at the bar next to 3 guys (all 3 guys are wearing tattered overalls).

    He asks them:
"So, ready any good books lately?" All answer quietly 'Nope"
"So, seen anything good on TV?" All answer quietly "Nope"
"So, seen any good movies lately?" All answer quietly "Nope"

He pauses for a minute looking at them.

"So anything new with corn lately?" he asks.

All 3 burst out loudly "CORN, CORN, CORN, yep lots with corn!" They begin to get very excited and ramble on about all aspects of corn and slapping each other on the back.

I about fell off the chair because I was laughing so hard.

I never said it was backwards.

The first organization you posted a link about is mostly performing arts, which I am not. Omaha, does have a great cultural scene but not much as far as the fine arts go (painting, sculpting, drawing etc.). There is one Coop downtown and it isn't active at all.

The second link does me no good as that group is over 200 miles away. Might as well join some groups in Iowa for that kind of distance. Now there is a state with a very active art community and you would never guess it.

In Albuquerque alone there were a minimum of 10 art guilds with hundreds of members. Then you had Santa Fe and Taos on top of that.

That is what I am basing my comparison/experience to.

Why not hop across the river to Council Bluffs? Or better yet, start one in Omaha! [IMG] Just a suggestion.......

I was vice president of one in Albuquerque. It takes a lot of time to get one going and keep running. If it weren't for retired folks doing most of the work most guilds would not make it. That is true in just about any state. It is a hard and most times a thankless job and bless thier hearts for doing it. Most "working" artists have to hold down other jobs and do their art in spare time. People like that don't have time to start up one, and it takes more than a couple of interested folks to make one work, and keep it rolling. Not much in Council Bluffs either. In Des Moines there are several but that is 130 miles from here. My wife has some excellent prospects for work in Illinois and I have a huge customer base there for my art already. Not to mention there are 1-2 good trains shows a month within 2 hours of where we are planning on living.

Geez, them Newbraskans shore is a touchy bunch....

Sorry, my opinion- I guess I got spoiled with vertical scenery, which is something you don't see much in Nebraska, outside of the Sandhills and Chimney Rock. I would like to spend just one day at Gibbon Jct. to catch all the UP action, and of course scoot over to Beatrice to visit relatives, but all in all the state has no hold on me anymore.

Loosen thy shorts, dude.....;)......it's all in good fun. I'm quite sure quite a few folks in NE wouldn't be caught dead in Texas. ...

    friscobob.....

Just noticed the location. Gallup is a beautiful area. Church Rock and the surrounding hills are beautiful. Like I said I grew up in Albuquerque, the Sandia's were less than half a mile from our backdoor. We lived in the extreme Northeast heights.

Coming from the high deserts/rockies to the plains out here was quite an adjustment. The thing I love the most is all the green and water here. Not much green around Albuq. except for the Rio Grande Valley and backside of the Sandia's. Northern Illinois remeinds me of your neck of the woods with the exposed rock faces but just much greener. Looking forward to having a mix.

Check out the drawing below, I did it back in '96. You might recoginze it. It is Church Rock mentioned above:

Should make a note about the print above.

The title is "Riding the Wind and Rails"

There is a balloon ralley every year in Gallup. At least there used to be. My folks balloon is the black one top center.

I know...........no harm done. That's why I responded in kind.

I do miss a good Valentino's pizza, though......hadn't had one since my last trip to Beatrice (Sept 1993, to bury my grandmother- on Saturday morning, so we could catch the Husker game. This is not a joke- my cousins weren't gonna miss a single down if they could help it)

    THAT is fan loyalty! :D

And I'm serious about wanting to check out Gibbon Jct, or even North Platte.

North Platte/Baily Yard used to have an observation tower/visitor center. I don't know if it still exists.

IIRC, there are no more RR crossings over the UP tracks along the mainline, which oughts cut down a lot on whistle noise.
