UP Museum To Host Wild West Night
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA -- The Union Pacific Railroad Museum is planning a Wild West Night on Oct26 to celebrate Council Bluffs' rich history as a gateway to the West with a fundraiser featuring poker, entertainment, a silent auction and western historic displays plus food and drink.
Poker tables, with prizes worth up to $10,000, will be moved into the museum for the evening and manned by dealers from the event's presenting sponsor, the Horseshoe Casino.
Players will have a chance to buy Texas Hold 'Em poker and compete for prizes that range from a trip to Las Vegas to western art.
"This will be a fun opportunity to learn the basics of poker while supporting a great cause," said Ben Post, president of the Friends of the Union Pacific Museum Board of Directors.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Friends of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum to support the museum's educational programs.
A reduced-price ticket is available to the festivities for those who don't care to play poker. They will be able to enjoy honky-tonk piano music, rope tricks, a silent auction and special exhibits on the real Wild West.
Doors open at 18:00. For more information on the fundraiser or to buy tickets, contact Jake at the museum at 329-8307.
The museum, at 200 Pearl St., is located in the former Carnegie Public Library. It opened in Council Bluffs in 2003, and is the result of a three-way partnership involving the Union Pacific Railroad, the city of Council Bluffs and the Friends of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00. Admission is free. - Phil Rooney, The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil
