Many of you may have seen the article in NSR about putting MTL National B-1 trucks under the Athearn 50' reefers.
I liked the idea because the coupling distance of the Athearn trucks is so wide and the wheels had to be changed to Atlas metal wheels in order to run freely.
What I did not like was to cut off the mounting pins and to do something irreversible.
Now I found a way: soda straws :lightbulb:

I bought a package of soda straws to make pipe loads from them. Now I found out that they have a diameter of 3mm and just fit as an insert into the MTL truck mounting holes. The biggest problem is to cut them properly and the insert them in the truck. Once they are inside the truck mounting hole, they can be easily put over the original mounting pin and the original Phillips screw can be fastened.

Today I tried two out of five 50' reefers, other Athearn cars should work the same way. I have no pictures yet, sorry.

Pictures, when you can get them, would be greatly appreciated. And this will work with all Athearn cars? Or just the reefers?
