Robert Ray and I were making some test runs of the newly DCC'd SD70's when we hooked up everything heavy that I had. The Gundersons hit my tunnel portals so I measured them and found that they were 22' 6" high !!! Since my tunnel portals were 22' (2' more than the NMRA Hi-cube standard), I had to add some new "concrete" bases to raise them up to 24'.
You're in good company... prototype railroads have had to make "adjustments" in order to run double stacks as well...
Loren Snyder makes double tunnel portals designed for the correct height so you can run the double stacks. We use them on our modules. They work great! Rob
Double stack cars hight? --- Torsja <tjm@...> a écrit : Dec 18 2004 > > > These double stack cars like the Gunderson car, how > high are they from the rail to the top off the container? Reply #1: I measured 26 mm from rail head to upper container's top un my FR Models Gundersons. Hope this helps, Dominique Reply #2: The MTL Gundersons are slightly under 30mm high from the top of rail to the top of containers. The cars have a "tendency" of swinging sideways, so you need to add an extra milimeter at the top edge of containers. Lajos
