Changing wheels to low profile, I discovered that my ATSF 89' flat car #71050 has them. This car was issued in 9/1997 which was before MTL began including low profile wheels. I don't remember ever changing them. Does anyone have this car and does it have low profile wheels?

Also my data base (taken from MTL's first db, not the one currently on their web page) has comments about Olympic Western and that the car is a special run. But there is nothing on the box to indicate what Olympic Western means nor that the car was a special run. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I will be back at my layout this weekend. I have the car in the original condition, I think. I will let you know. Or just email me, if you like.

    Larry,

If that is the Orange TOFC then the answer is yes, they came from the factory with LP wheelsets. I bought one new and when I first started reading about LP's, there was a report elsewhere citing this car as an example of one that came with LP from the factory. I checked mine and sure enough. To date, that the only one of that series I bought so I don't know about any others. I did wonder if perhaps there was a clearance problem between flange and underside of carbody that might have led to that.
