Can you guys give me the Good, the Bad and the Ugly on the MRC Command 2000 DCC unit? I'm looking to buy and thought I would get the lowdown from folks who might have had some experience with it first. Thanks
If you have a basic layout, and plan on running 10 or fewer locos at the same time its an adiquate unit. It doesent feature 120 step speed, just 14 and 28 steps, but control is fine. its a great beginner unit, but I wouldn't pay over 50 bucks for it , and make sure they throw in the wackarround throttle too at that price....Mike
I would consider another DCC system as you'll quickly outgrow, The MRC 2000. It has a limited amount of functions and you could do better with another DCC system. Stay cool and run steam....
I think if you can pick up one cheap enough its a good starter set, I had one and was happy with it for what I needed it for, I ran 3 or 4 enigines at a time on a smaller layout
My Father's HO modular layout uses it. We bought it when it first came out to get an introduction to DCC. It worked fine in the dawn of DCC but, it's having incrdible difficulties keeping up now. They are shopping for a new system as we speak as, the MRC is dying during operating sessions. I have three MRC decoders too.....I can't believe I paid $50 each for those things when they came out....
I purchased an NCE PowerHouse Pro. Haven't gotten to run it yet though. I just ordered my PS and a reverse module from Tony's on Monday. I'm looking forward to trying it out. Thanks for everyone's input. Jeff MCJACO: I'd advise you to contact Eric Berman, he's got an NCE PowerHouse Pro radio control set for sale, really good price I might add. You can find him in this thread. Thread with Eric Berman's entry
msg4jeff, I was fortunately given an Atlas Commander by a friend when he bought NCE Powerhouse for his layout. Now I have two Commanders, as I had originally done a review on the Commander for "Model Retailer" when it came out years ago. It's the perfect size for my puny little layout but, I wish it was a little more user friendly for advanced programming. I don't complain about free though!
I agree with PowerSteamGuy... Congrat's on the purchase. Sounds like you did the right thing! Enjoy the DCC! [ March 11, 2005, 11:35 AM: Message edited by: Kitbash ]
