I am doing some research and need to find out some information on modern locos. I really need to know the miles per gallon on a diesel loco. Any information would be of great help. Thanks, David
David, Depending on the loco and the tonnage that is being pulled I have heard about 1.5 MPG. Something I read someplace. Shannon WP LIVES ATSF LIVES
David - Check out Al Krug's extensive fuel use chart on his website. Assorted engine models broken down into gal. per hour, throttle settings etc. I particularly like the reference to a coal train burning fuel at at a thrifty 48 feet per gallon! Krug's Fuel Use Page
