What MOW equipment do you guys run on your layouts? Currently I have no MOW, but hope to acquire some in the future!! Happy Modeling!! John
i have the Walthers CP 1 and 2 mow sets, a Sante Fe 250-Ton Crane and Boom Car, a couple of Fairmont Speeders, Rotary snow plow, a Jordan Spreader, 3 car 1800s MOW set and Blacksmith Car, and a Box Cab Diesel Track Cleaner. Maybe when the Shadow Mountain Ry increases its revenue it will be able to purchase some of the neat track laying eqipment
Speaking of MOW equipment.... Has anyone seen anything like this. I found it at the UP yard in Cedar Rapids. It has the name Loram on the side. Any thoughts as to what it does? Thanks. Bry
I don't think it's a rail grinder. I've never seen on with a conveyer belt before. I don't know what a rail grinder would do with that.
Then how about a track layer? Conveyer would make sense for that. That kinda threw me too, only thing I hear of that has the word Loram in it is the Rail grinder. Any body else?

It's a ballast cleaner or a ditcher and I think that it's a ditcher. See... http://www.loram.com/ditching.htm
Though I have never seen a ditcher like that, I would go with Roger's view considering what looks like a cutting head to the far right of the centre picture. Seeing the conveyor belt initially, I thought it may have been a ballast cleaner as well. Gary.
After checking out Loram's website, I am positive that it is the Loram "Badger" ditching machine. The three pictures I have don't do it complete justice. But that is what it is. It sure hasn't been used for a while. They have all the windows boarded up. Thanks for the help Bry
The current version of the Indiana Northern has a small MOW roster consisting of a ballast hopper (Con-Cor), caboose (Atlas), and snow plow (Walthers). Being a shortline, the INNR doesn't have the capital to spend on a MOW outfit. As a result, most of out work is outsourced to railroad contractors.
