What paint scheme do you think is currently needed for currently made locomotives. My vote is for a Chessie System painted SD7-9 and GP7-9 from athearn. ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! LONG LIVE BIG BLUE!!!
Personally I feel we need some locomotives factory decorated for FRISCO and MKT. Us guys who model these roads could really use a break. Seems like we hardly ever get any units decorated for our favorite roads, especially quality locomotives. Seems like we always get every locomotive released decorated for Pennsy, Reading, or Rutland. I really feel like if they'd decorate locomotives for these roads they'd find there is a market for them. Well that's my two cents worth. Someone else can use the soapbox now.
I agree with Kermit. Some roads are always left out perhaps because the manufacturer does not think it would sell. Some of the roads they do release I cant imagine would be big sellers. "Rutland" How much of a call could there be for them? I model the Rock Island which has had many options recently but most are in the early delivery schemes which I cant use. I would have liked to have seen P2K release locos in second and third paint schemes.(They did do this for ATSF,SP,NYC). Did they even do a GP-7 in Frisco? So after all is said and done throw the KCS in there as well.
I'd have to agree with Chessie 8563. Some GP38s in Chessie paint would be nice too.. LONG LIVE THE CAT..
Atlas did come out with a GP7 in Frisco red & white, but that was some time back. The only current Frisco-painted diesels now on the hobbyshop shelves are the GP38-2 and SW1500 from Athearn and the GP15-1 from Walthers. Others out there are Stewart's U25B and F3s (although the yellow on the F3s are too light IMHO), Walthers' H12-44, and Athearn's older SD40-2. Life-Like is coming out with a Proto 2000 FA1 and FB1 in Frisco black/yellow later this year, and Bachmann is introducing their Russian Decapod about the same time. So Frisco is getting covered more (hooray!), now let's see some Katy stuff. Hey Atlas, you have those GP38s and GP40s- how about coming out with either Barringer red or John Deere green? You Katy folks need to start petitioning now! ------------------ Ship IT on the Frisco! Bob T.

A blue Chessie cat on a gold locomotive- now THERE's a nice-looking locomotive!!! I don't know if it's still available, though, but it would be worth the search. ------------------ Ship IT on the Frisco! Bob T.
Glad to see there are some other folks out there who want FRISCO and MKT power. I could not believe that PROTO 2000 brought out the non dynamic GP7 and didn't do it in FRISCO. FRISCO was one of the largest purchasers of this unit. I noted with great frustation that Atlas is bringing out the GP38 decorated in New England Central. There can't be more than three or four NEC modelers in Anerica. We can always hope for more units in our favorites. Thanks for the support guys.

Atlas should make these GP38 and GP40 as a regular run because they would sell good and theres so many names to make them in. sorta like the athearn SD40-2. ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! In general, I would like to see more early geeps in modern paint shcemes. For example, Soo Line GP7's and 9's, BN GP35's, etc. Also, there seems to be a genaral lack of Northern Pacific equipment. The thing that I never really understood is that manufacturers produce locomotives, but only 3-4 schemes in each shell. A prime example is the Athearn GE U-boats. 3-4 roadnames a piece when they could produce 7-8 easily. More use of the current production models would definitely benefit the industry in my opinion, and have a minimal cost factor.
I would like to see some SP tunnel motors with the SP initals on the side got to this website for example. http://espee.railfan.net/jpgs/tony_madieros/tony_madieros_sp-sd40t-2-8250_new.jpg ------------------ marshall
Marshall, I too think the tunnel motors look neat in that scheme, but think it is highly unlikely that it will be commercially produced. Could be some suitable decals, though. The SP on the side looks smaller than on the nose, but that could just be perspective. I expect they would have used nose decals. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery Alan's European Gallery Alan's British Steam Gallery [This message has been edited by Alan (edited 22 July 2000).]
