In August 2007 this engine #6746 was still wearing the yellow/blue scheme with a BNSF patch but the Kato part # somehow indicates that their #6746 will be in Heritage I - so yes, unfortunately it is just speculation based on the prototype... ...delivery is sometimes end of November so I guess the models are already in the container on the water.
Well if the fact that #6746 is still in yellow/blue patch I'm hoping either Kato has done it right to updated pics, or smart enough to realize that when this engine does get repainted it will be in H1 Swoosh scheme. Guess we won't really know until it gets here. But I do have to say with a lot of the releases of old engines with new numbers just show's lazyness.
Grrrr... Wish they would make an SD45 in various older paint schemes. All this BNSF and other newer paint is just so boring to me. RE: those SD40-2's Here is a link to wiki with a list of lines that owned them and how many. Even my favorites ICG and N&W had some. Of Course UP has crap loads of them too. how do we email this list to Kato? EMD SD40-2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chopping snoots is a time consuming job I have no time for, either, Tim! I have done 3. One, Kato did the exact number I did. *groan*
YES, YES, YES! We so badly need new coal motors. C30's, U30C's, U33/36C, SD45's, and the list goes on and on. Interesting Wiki link--the data they show has incorrect numbers for the BN's (and likely other rosters as well). The BN Photo Archive link shows 838 units. http://www.trainpix.com/BN/ROSTER.HTM Either way, I didn't realize how many UP and CP had. Mopac was another surprise. I didn't realize they had a large roster as well.
Yep CP and UP had lots more than anyone probobably thinks, well if you are not familiar with those roads. Coal motors indeed. maybe a CP -2, with a UP C30 a few BN C30's A BN -2 not to mention a fuel tender set!.......
Yes, I would also buy SD45s and C30-7's. And if Kato is on a Santa Fe binge, how about some SD75M's instead of more SD40-2s?? But hey, let's not complain, these regular releases from Kato are a GOOD THING!!!
It would be nice to see a re-release of the U30C/C30-7's and the SD45. Personally I have quite a few of each already.... But a mid-production non-snoot SD40-2 would be a great seller for all the reasons listed above. So many roads, so little production space...
Thats' a good suggestion, I would also buy SD75M's in Santa Fe or in BNSF paint schemes. I'm also dreaming about Dash 8-40CW's, GP-60M's, GP-60B's and prototypical BNSF Dash 9's.
The Kato webpage says the #6746 will be Heritage. I ordered the Santa Fe unit and will patch it myself!
cool, will it also have a Xmass Tree Ornament on the longhood, a small Happy Birthday on the sill or maybe Smokey the Bear as the engineer in the cab... ?
I have a question about the release of the Kato SD40-2’s. I just bought BNSF 6744 off of eBay (impulse buy). I need to get a decoder for the loco from my LHS, and am not sure which Digitrax decoder to get? Is this a post 2006 run for this road number and part number 176-8203? Should I get DN163K1C (which is for ones made from 2006 onward) or DN163K1B made for pre 2006 releases. Thanks, Jeff
6746... I went to Barstow 3 or 4 years ago, on Christmas night, raining out of Bakersfield, snowing like heck over Tehachapi, lots of slush around Mojave, and rain the rest of the way to Barstow. All in the comfort of a ratty SD40-2 with the number BNSF 6746. Never been so cold in my life... It's a shame Kato couldn't paint the thing right.
I have noticed lately that Kato seems to be concentrating mainly on BNSF, UP & NS road names. Do they realize they making a lot of modelers unhappy? Cheers,
