I caught these two FURX units in or approaching the CSX Osborn Yard in Louisville, KY, on this past Derby Weekend. Thought I'd share with you fellas that probably don't visit my site.
Nice pictures Jeff! I see your little one taking in the action with you there I still have yet to catch one of the FURX units, but then again, I don't get out that much. (Heck, I was blown away by catching the CEFX unit that I did!) As always, thanks for sharing... we all appreciate it! Harold [ 15 May 2001: Message edited by: chessie ]

Thanks for the pics. We saw one of those Helm units as we were driving down I10? from San Bernardino to LA, by the time I had found an exit, we lost sight of the train so didn't get a picture
I note that some of the HCLX locomotives are in SD40 carbodies, and some in SD45's. I assume that they have been rebuilt, and are the SD45-looking ones now actually SD40-2 standards, same as the SP SD40M-2?

The core rebuild program uses mostly SD40/SD45's. They generally rebuild/remanufacture them with 3000hp prime movers and -2 electricals & specs. Harold
While in Little Falls, NY for my mother's funeral, I stayed at the Best Western there and saw FURX 3036 go by on CSX eastbound. BTW that's a great place to railfan CSX. Get a second floor room on the track side and you can shoot all kinds of stuff. Saw UP diesels, Conrail not yet repainted, all kinds. What's the story with the FURX units? What does FURX stand for?
Sorry about your mom but at least you had some good railfanning BTW, I have yet to see a FURX unit in NY (Or UP for that matter)! Happy Railroading! Russ/NYC P.S. FURX stands for First Union Rail Leasing? I do not remember

quote:
Originally posted by Craig Martyn: [QB]First Union Rail Leasing Corp. is about all I know. /QB]

I'm a little late coming into this discussion. Just thought I'd add that yes, in fact that is the same First Union as the bank. Here's a shot I took at Mexico near Cumberland: The Mexico Farms Road bridge provides for some nice high-angle roof shots.
Great FURby shot! I wonder if they will repaint them Wachovia blue & red due to the impending merger! Harold
