I read that InterMountain has announced THEY are going to produce FT's also... anyone else heard this? Isn't this kind of odd, like the E-8's and PA's?

More Kato F units would be nice. I hate limited runs. [IMG] God Bless Ebay!

I'd heard that MicroTrains was coming out with some FTs next year. Can't wait -- I need a horde of them to go with all the Geeps I have. I don't recall having seen an N scale FT in more than a few years. Kato has a dribbling of F7s out there, but I'd be hard pressed to find a nice running FT or F3. I'd like to see a full release from Atlas, Kato, or MicroTrains of F3s and F7s as well, especially undecorateds.

For all of you that want them, I do know that Kato will do a re-release of the other F7's they did in 1992. They already did Santa Fe Warbonnett in 1998 and they will do the UP, SP, BN, all four undecs and probably the others they did in 1992. I expect it will be in early 2001 because they were doing research on individual prototypes this past winter and they were looking for collections of prototype pictures from the respective historical societies and individual sources. I also HEARD from a Kato rep that they were going to redo the F3 body to a more popular phase and were looking for prototype info for these also. If you look at how they operate, you will notice they never say in advance anything about a re-release, just all new items. The only other thing I know about these is they will have the same new mechanisms and trucks as the ones they did since 1996.

They should have done the F59PHI as far as I am conserned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's also a covered wagon! [IMG]

Actually, Craig, a very interesting point you make there. We don't have a decent modern passenger engine. Life-Like makes the F40PH, but it can only pull about 10 cars and forget going up a grade. I would LOVE to see either the P40 or the F59PHI done by a manufacturer. How come the HO guys have all the fun????

Did anyone ever make an N scale FT? I don't recall one...

If not that would be an essential model for anyone modeling early transition era.

I think you are talking about the Model Power F40PH. My Life-Like F40PH's will pull a Barn down...UP HILL! By the way guys, the F40's and the F59's are not Car Body Loco's (Thank God!), they are on a standard GP40-60 frame with a "car body type" cowl over the Prime Mover and HEP equipment.

Yah, Hallmark and maybe even Key but I'm not sure about that.

I would really love to see an F59PHI done because I live in Southern CA and we now have the new Surfliners!!! They look GREAT! Plus the fact that there are many more schemes that can be done on the F59 than on the Genesis (what are you thinking Kato?? Althouhg I will get a few Genesis).

KATO is giving us our modern Amtrak power in 2001. With the Genesis units coming out compared to the past I guess we should be happy, even though a F-59PH would also be a great addition to my collection.

No, Brent, talking about Life-Like. I did buy the loco about ten years ago, it doesn't have flywheels, etc. That's probably why, and it is kind of light. On a flat, straight track with 13 freight cars, it just spins the wheels.

Might have to play with it a little, see if I can get it to pull better.

    Cory,
Not to get too far off subject here...
Where did you get this "LIFE-LIKE" loco that's such a dog? [IMG] I know the LL has no flywheels, but the entire body is filled with weight and will out pull ANY Atlas or Kato (the Newest PA1's being a possible exception) Loco. [IMG] I've pulled well over 30 Con-Cor Superliners with ONE Life-Like F40PH. [IMG] Flywheels have nothing to do with pulling power, weight on the otherhand does. I have gone to a few "Rip-off" Hobby shops and found ModelPower Locos in Life-Like boxes. [IMG] I think this is what has happened in your case, I'm SURE of it! Is there anyone else who can confirm what I'm saying about the pulling power of the standard LL Loco's?

OH YEAH, I WANT SOME FT'S IN BRASS SO THEY WILL COAST AN ARM AND A LEG AND WON'T RUN WORTH A HOOT! [IMG] I think you're missing the point here. MANY of us think the "CAR BODY" type loco's from the 40's, 50's and 60's are the most OVERDONE type out there. Yes, nobody has done an FT before, but why do we need two different manufactures doing it at the same time and probably the same quality and coast. I could see if we had a "economy" model by someone that would be non-flywheel drive and "CHEEP" and another that was of the Atlas, Kato, New Life-Like type of drives. But TWO OF THE SAME QUALITY? What's the point of that? Let's get us some F/FP 45's, GE "Pepsi" Cans or maybe even a better running F40PH instead of two FT's that would be essentually the same.
PS: I'm a Santa Fe Modeler that keeps up with current times. In other words, Santa Fe is now called, The Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway.
