A lot of people pick up things at garage sales thinking they can re sell the items and make a big profit, but have no idea of what the stuff is worth, and I see that all the time on the bay.
Yes! We had a neighborhood garage sale a few years ago and many of the "Buyers" were constantly on their cell phones, often talking to someone analyzing the items for resale. We could even hear a woman "Buyer" coming down the street, stopping at each house and repeating the same line -- "Why is everything so expensive?". Such a change from how things used to be, when people bought things to use in their homes. My Dad bought a lot of his tools at garage sales in the 1970s.
How about this deal? You get 50cm of brass track (that's about 19-20 inches) and did I mention it is advertised as brass? Talk about a step backwards. Oh, I forgot, you get rail joiners and nails too. Still, brass track? Hopefully it is not all brass. 10pcs Evemodel N Scale 1:160 Railroad Flex Track 50cm with Rail Joiners Nails | eBay
It's even more annoying when a parcel is leaving California headed to east coast of Australia (a simple ride straight across the Pacific Ocean) and it suddenly appears in Teterboro, New Jersey ................. it's going wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere ???
Maybe they are training new pilots and like to fly the long way to Australia to give them additional hours?
Or maybe the pilot is a descendant of "Wrong Way Corrigan" the guy who took off from New York for California and ended up in Dublin, Ireland.
About a week and a half ago, someone shipped a package to me. He used one of those mail shipping companies. It did not arrive here. Upon checking into it, I discovered that company had me in their computer, but for some reason it was an address from years and years ago, long since superceded. They put their shipping label over the one my sender had attached. Whaaaaatttt???? Fortunately USPS sent it back. So I am awaiting the return process to complete, and then we'll start anew. I NEVER use those services. Argh.
Or how about this masterpiece at over $50 with shipping? It's been posted in excess of six months now. I should click the [Feedback] button.
I know I have. While I still look there, I've decided to just shake my head and move on instead of posting here. Though the "DCC Train Set Missing Locomotive" is still there for the taking for anyone who wants it...
I have seen these. Not sure why they believe there would be any interest, let alone value in those "items". If so, we could all empty our junk boxes for a healthy return, to further fund our hobby.
Remember the guy that used to sell the N scale locomotive shells with the missing cab roofs? I often woudered what he was doing with just the cab roof only? Seems I saw one not long ago for sale. When it comes to some of these items, I just think some of these purchases are made by family members with good intentions and just end up sitting on a shelf. I know I have received a few of those.
Almost every old Mehano locomotive, for sale, with a separate cab roof, has the roof missing. And, paraphrasing what Raymond Babbit's doctor said and Charlie Babbit repeated, Some people do not understand the concept of money. Doug
