    Obviously no-one at Bachmann sees the 'jacked up' flat car as a problem.
    I give the crane itself a passing grade.

    Were they originally that high riding?!?

    This is one that I lowered, as it did seem high when I bought it, but, I do not remember its being that high-riding. This is an older issue. I did not take a "before" photograph, so I do not remember.

    I do not k now which is worse: the price or the ride.

    The Bachmann boom tender car is jacked-up to make the surface even with the deck of the crane car. The prototypes were typically either just left lower than the crane car deck, or the tender decks had platforms built up to the crane deck height on one end or even the whole car. But I have never seen nor heard of a whole car frame being jacked up like the Bachmann model.
