So I just had a good one. I have a couple cars listed on Ebay that just ended a couple hours ago. In my listing I state that I will combine shipping for multiple items. A intersted buyer contacted me and asked just what combined shipping meant. I explained to him that I can generally fit 4-5 cars into 1 small USPS flat rate shipping box. So therefor if I can fit them all into one box, I would only charge him for the 1 shipping charge of $7 (which I only make just slightly over $1).

I got a reply back from him that a shipping charge of $7 for a single box was highway robbery and that I was ripping off the buyers.

I guess some people just want stuff for FREE!

    Ryan,

You don't make just over a dollar on the shipping. EBay takes 10% of whatever you charge for shipping, so you only get $6.30 of your $7.00 shipping charge. Of course PayPal takes an additional 3% so net to you from the $7.00 is more like $6.09. He doesn't want you to ship it for free, he wants you to pay for part of the shipping.

    Have fun, Mark

Isn't it great, dealing with a fool? (Must have studied moron math, before dropping out of grade school!) Without insurance, the price for that size of FRB these days is almost $6.00. Add insurance, and YOU are losing money. (Without subtracting seller fees.) This reminds me of the idiot who wanted to buy a book from me, and expected it to be shipped for seventy cents. This was only a couple of years ago! Shipping a book that cheaply has not been possible for many decades now. With actual USPS postage, plus delivery confirmation, it was almost three dollars. Less than THREE BUCKS and he was whining? I blocked his email address. Sold it to someone else who was delighted to have it.

Go into your settings and block them, so they can never bid on your stuff again.

This is why I'm really trying to sell my extra rain stuff here and on an O scale forum... I'm going to avoid ebay, until it is my only selling option. If you don''t like the shipping cost don't bid! But as a seller, needing to be afraid of "negative feedback", you can't tell him how you really feel, because his negative feedback gets to stand on it's own.

On a side note, I have no idea why they have buyer feedback, since a seller can't give negative feedback.... upidstay, just upidstay

Normally it wouldn't bother me if it was some junk that I was trying to dump. But in this case these are Brand New NIB MTL cars that have never had the factory air out of them. I am only asking $8 each for them. So I am LOSING $$$$ already just for the price I am asking.

Ryan, just don't combine shipping, guess he's ok with that. Or is that worse than highway robbery?

As for a small flat rate box, it cost $5.80 if you mail from the post office, and $5.15 if you print off a shipping label off USPS.com.

I have no issues with some one charging me $7.00 for shipping as it costs me about $14.00 to $15.00 to make a round trip to my closest brick and mortar hobby shop and when I make a purchase off of e-bay it is usually for something that I can not locate any other place and I get it at less than list price so it is a win, win for me.

Well, on one hand the cost of shipping does nothing towards the enjoyment of the item purchased and thus there is a tendency to want things for the minimum shipping price.

On the other, as someone whose purchases almost never come with free shipping due to having to cross an international boarder, it makes me want to punch them in the face over arguing over such a small shipping charge.

That, combined with a one sided PP policy of the buyer is never a liar, cheat or thief has turned off many, many sellers. In fact, has probably thrown the doors wide open for even greater amounts of buyers abusing the system.

Yeah, and don't forget to add the Ebay percentage of the postage. Then there is the gas to get the boxes to the post office. $7.00 is a reasonable price, especially if you can ship three for the price.

USPS does schedule pick up of mail. But as our front porch is ten feet from a busy sidewalk, where kids play, (etc, etc), we cannot leave it there. (Unless we want to risk theft or damage.) So we must to wait for our carrier, (who is a good and friendly person), to show up. But that can often be a many hour window for him, depending upon weather, and how loaded down he is that day on his route, other pickup, and so on. Thus it is quite inconvenient to sit, wait, wonder.

I got an e mail back from him last night. This was after I sent him an e mail stating if he was interested in the items, I would be more than glad to send them parcel post so he could save on shipping. HOWEVER dont hold me accountable or repsonsible for the item taking longer than the 3-5 days estimated shipping I have listed in my Ebay listing. He replied to me that parcel post was the WORST way I could ship it. After I got that reply, I BLOCKED HIM!!!!!!

    Ryan,
If you'll pay Priority shipping I'll take everything you have on ebay, for 20% of the products original MSRP. :) . As long as there are no scratches on any of the cases, I will give you at least 3 stars.

I wonder if they're 'close enough' that I could make something out of the long caboose... Hmmmm.
