    Probably from a
    Lionel C&O Steam Locomotive w/Tender & 6-8627 C&O 4-4-2 Steam Engine w/Tender.

Trainz lists two engines, WITH tenders (MPC-era? ) for $37, closed, no bids at that price:

    http://marketplace.collector-modeltrains.com/offer/details/1868987?ref=cidmktnam

For that tender, no shipping, no tax, train show, less than five bucks. As-is, someone paid fifteen plus shipping, with NO center rail pickups, speaker floating around inside......stupid.
    Opinion.

There is an assessor's book floating around out there, that is pretty much outdated by now. The owner may have consulted it. Prices have dropped considerably on the older pieces, since Lionel came out with newer older tin plate's and plastic models...re-runs. As a result, the collector's market has dropped off considerably.

Although. an interesting car I would hardly consider paying that much for it.

There used to be multiple collector price guides. Not sure what is out there these days.

I will always love the stuff I had, both as a youth and later as a collector. But only those items from the 1945-1969 era. Thereafter the magic just does not exist for me.
