Shot approximately 23yrs ago...(boy o' boy...time flies!)...this Santa Fe shot at ground level at Walong (Tehapchapi) heading RR west (north) Next one shot in May of 1982, in Madera, Ca...which is located in the San Juaquin Valley...this very utilitarian "Amtrak" depot...
This shot is from one of my first visits to Cajon Pass...somewhere around 1983...this ATSF train is passing through Summit...on it's way down the pass.
NSMike: On the color shot of ATSF: Looks like a GP30 on the rear of the consist. Three sets of tracks. Closest two are rusted, so probably sidings. The rear track rail is that brownish-grey of newer rail. Also, the grease and dirt are on the rear track; the front two have ballast that is relatively grease free. BTW, no welded rail. Great stuff for modeling!! Great shots. I like them all.
Love that Walong picture Locos in early blue and also blue/yellow warbonnet - and with rotary beacons! [ June 24, 2005, 03:15 AM: Message edited by: Alan ]
Now the 2 further rails are welded and concrete tied, but that close siding is still in that dilapidated state. Of course in 3 day trips to Tahacapi, I've yet to see a single train on the passing track ever.
Yoho: Isn't the track the engine is on un-welded? Looks like there is some kind of plate on the outside of the rails. I thought it looked the same on the centertrack. Thanks.
