Rumor has it that Precision Scale Co., Inc. is considering doing a brass model of the Bulldog - the locomotive/baggage combo that saw several years of service in the Harlowton to Great Falls passenger run. Anybody know anything about this? It would be a great model to make, I think, since the Milwaukee Shops built only two of these units (5900 and 5901). The second unit was used in commuter/local service in Wisconsin. To my knowledge no model of the bulldog has ever been made. Am I correct?
Here are some photos of the 5900 and 5901, courtesy of Don Ross and his excellent web site. http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/mil5900.jpg http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/mil5901.jpg Paul Seattle, WA
Check TMR issue I think it was the 4th quarter of 1999 issue that had a nice write up on these units, from construction to final usage to reasons for their demise. There are a few builders photos of this, a blueprint, and several in use shots. I plan to build one from the styrene up....."one of these days". The Athearn trucks for their TM unit would make a reasonable stand in for the Bulldog's drive. Otherwise, I may build one master frame and cast some in resin. The body, except for the nose, would be based upon the 85' passenger car profiles being built at the same time. The cab construction is shown in detail in the TMR article, and home builders could deduce the steps needed to make the cab. As far as I know, and according to the article, there are no models available. If PSC prices this as they normally do, I am thinking $600.00 o $900.00 per unit. One unit was known as the Berlin Bullet while in service. Mark
It's not a rumor. The announcement of this potential project, which came from PSC, was on the MILW Yahoo Group last month. Boxcab E50
If my disposable income increases sometime in the future, I would most definately snap one of those up! One of the Bulldogs ran on the LaCressent - Austin, MN, branchline just north of my hometown (can't remember which, though).
