I sort of inherited my brother's Lionel "stuff" when he went off to WW-II. That was traded for some HO equipment in 1947, which grew and stayed with me through many moves until the mid-70's when I sold all of it. :( My Wife, feeling that I was working too hard and should return to a hobby, gave me some N-Scale cars for Christmas in the early-80's. I'm new to the board, but not to MR. Back in the mid '60's my Father constructed a 4x8 HO setup. It was called the Plywood Summit Lines. It's a "cookie cutter" design that I loved as a kid.

After I got married in 1980 and had a son 2 years later, I started to build another PSL. I completed all of the basic layout, got to the wiring, and things in my life changed. I put it aside until this past week. Here at work, a former employee, left a 12x4 layout kind of in the shape of a "C", complete with all the track laid and wiring done. Since we are cleaning house here, I became it's next owner.

I have no idea of the name of the new layout, but I connected both layouts to form a "T". So far it looks like it will become an awesome design!!! I told Patti, my wife, that on Nov 11th 2004, the work will be complete! (that's 2 years form the day I brought it home). I am a stickler for detail, so the scenery will take some time.

I am looking forward to learning from all you Veterans!!

PS: Does anyone know of any clubs in the South Jersey area?

I got a 00 Scale layout for Christmas one year, I must have been about 6-ish, (maybe about 1980 or so). It was set up on half an old table tennis table, and included an Airfix class 31 diesel and a GWR 0-6-0 pannier tank steam loco.

I was 00 scale totally until the late 80's, when I sold it all & briefly tried UK outline N scale. I found I did't get on well with that, so got back into 00 again.

In 1994 we had a family holiday to the US, and I came back with a couple of Athearn diesels (a GP50 and SDP40 in CNW! ) plus an equally unlikely small collection of freightcars as "souvenirs" and I was hooked.

My modelling is now 90% US outline HO scale, and 10% UK outline in OO scale.

Hello. I started in N scale when I got a Bachmann Amtrak Metroliner set for christmas, but ever since I hired out on the New York Susquehanna and Western Railway, I have modeled the railroad I work for in HO scale. I also have a freelanced railroad that has HO scale export South American General Electric diesels as power, alot of U-20C's, UM-10B's, U-13C's, U-15C's etc. Alot of neat power right!!!

Matt, Welcome to the Trainboard. Glad to have you on board. [IMG]

I wonder if Sattler's Hobbies on Hadden Avenue in Westmont could help with clubs in your area. Sattler's was an "old" store when I lived in Haddon Township 40 years ago, they seemed to know everything about everybody in the hobby in South Jersey. [IMG]
