I hope that this post is acceptable in this forum.

I'm in a little bit of trouble -- I sent a bunch of DM&IR inventory to a guy to paint, renumber, etc. and the guy basically got 1/2 way done and had to stop working on my stuff.

He is going to ship my stuff back to me in it's current condition but I'm sort of fearing the worst.

I am a new modeler. I'm building a layout currently (http://www.boche.net/trains/) but my skills are nowhere near they need to be to start experimenting with my rare and hard to come by DM&IR equipment. In time I will strengthen my painting and decal'ing skills, but I'm just not there right now.

Basically what I need is to find someone with painting, decal'ing, and general modeling talent who can pick up where my guy left off. Because this transaction would essentially be taking place over the internet, it's somewhat of a risk to me so before I go sending my inventory to Joe Anybody via UPS, I would expect to see some references from you as well as some pictures of what you've accomplished. Hopefully you will understand and that's not expecting too much.

    Here's what I'm looking at:
    - 6 Lifelike SD9's that need re-numbering
    - 4 centerflow hoppers that need re-numbering

    Extra credit:
    - 2 Lifelike SW9's that need to be painted in DM&IR paint and then decal'd properly. They already have the paint stripped. During the stripping process, the stock railings were trashed so they'd need new railings (brass I'd assume?)
    - 1 Athearn SW1500 that needs a custom paint job with some details added

I already have all decals purchased and would supply them. I would pay for the rest of the materials cost of course such as extra detail parts and paint.

Do you know anyone who'd be interested in this project?

I pay very competitively but I don't expected to be blackmailed or subjected to extortion as far as costs go.

I'm also going to post this message at my Local Hobby Shop if they'll allow it in hopes of finding someone locally.

    My email is jason@boche.net

    Thank you very much,

    Jas,

Get in touch with Carr's Hobby in Duluth. They always have custom painted DM&IR equipment for sale. Maybe they can put you in touch with their painter.

Thank you DanRaitz. I've been thinking about that idea. I talked to the Carr's shop owners this past summer when I was visiting there and I got the impression that the guy who is custom painting the Carr's DM&IR stuff basically does it when he feels like it. If I can't find anyone else, I'll try to track him down, but I just got the impression that he's the type that wouldn't be interested. Carr's as some real nice DM&IR stuff, but some of it is really painful on the pocket book. I did pick up 4 DM&IR centerflow hoppers when I was there for $30/ea. I didn't mind that. I love centerflow hoppers and I especially love DM&IR centerflow hoppers [IMG] I promised Carr's that next time I visit them I'll walk out with a locomotive. Have you noticed that some of the custom painted DM&IR stuff in Carr's is for display only and not for sale?! Talk about a tease!!!

I do custom painting. I have not taken any jobs in a while because I wanted to get some of my own work done, but I might be able to help.

For references you can call Scale Model Supply in St. Paul. I have been working out of that store for years and have done a truckload of painting jobs, plastic and brass.

Send me an email at jkraker@crowniron.com and we can talk.

I also do custom painting an decalling. I haven't done many in the last month or so, but I can an will take on the work if wanted....

Prices are resonable, an work is done to perfection. If your interested, you may contact me through my shops e-mail address in my signature.
