I've often viewed Model Railroad Web Sites - Anyone have any idea how I might make one of my N-Scale railroad? Who would host it? What would it cost and what software should I use?
Sites like Angelfire or Tripod will host a site for free. If you want your own short domain name (as in www. yoursitename. com instead of something like yoursitename.tripod.com), it gets alot more complicated. You have to register a name, which costs money, then if you don't want ads on your site, you have to pay for the hosting, which costs more money, and it escalates from there. How fancy a site are we talkin here? [ 26 February 2002, 05:09: Message edited by: RidgeRunner ]
I have moved this topic to the club car where it should get more replies. You must have an ISP for net connection??? Most providers provide free webspace for members. check with your ISP if webspace is part of your usage fee. There are a lot of web page software. i use Microsoft Front Page which i find quite easy to use. other here will suggest other programs, they are all good it's whatever you feel comfortable with. My website is based on my N scale layout so take a look and let me know what you think. good luck with your project
Mr Wizard, firstly, Welcome to Trainboard I use 1st Page 2000 for page building, extremely easy to use (does a lot of the hard work for you, if you want) and is free. www.evrsoft.com For hosting, you could try www.0catch.com they offer free 100 meg sites with ad banners, or for a small charge 250 meg sites with no ads!
