Got it finished this weekend. Still need #119 B unit to go with it. And some early CSX passenger cars. sigh..... so much to do. ;-)
What do you plan to use for a B unit? Model Power did not produce any B units. A dummy unit made from a stripped out Bachmann unit would suffice. The Model Power FP7 has plenty of pulling power to handle one or two such units.
Not sure. Kato is possible, but the level of detail won't match. I already have a Bachmann F7A shell, but the dynamic brake fan is the wrong size (too large). I might use the Bachmann anyway. So I'm still deciding.
David. It is possible. I have seen B unit shells on ebay. The B unit does not have to be powered since the MP unit is pretty heavy.
For a B-unit to match the MP FP-7A, I'd use 2 Del Prado FP-7A shells. Are they not the same as the MP shell? Better still, they're plastic, and inexpensive. Cheers Steve NZ
Steve, I guess that would be a possibility.... But the FP7A is not the same as an F7A. The FP is longer and has an extra section up on the rooftop. It would be a whole lot more trouble to kitbash a F7B from FP7A starting points.
Getting an F7B alone might be difficult. There is one, a Bachmann, on Ebay right now with a starting bid of $18.95> http://www.ebay.com/itm/BACHMANN-PL...665513?hash=item1c6bfa8929:g:G8QAAOSwCp5XgFLv These older Bachmann's ran okay until the axle gears split but you are not getting it for its running ability, you want the shell!
Inkaneer, I already have a Bachmann shell. I might use it. The only slight problem is that the dynamic brake fan is 48" since it is a late phase F7. CSX F7Bs both have the 36" fan.
