Mine do not run on the part of my pike where I have one or two Atlas plastic frog #6s. Mine will run over both varieties of the B-mann E-Z TRAK #4. If you have a problem with a wheelset, those two will find it.

On the early issues of the eight wheelers, there were complaints about picking points. Some owners resolved this by removing the spring from the pilots. You might try that. Further, do make sure that the pilots are in gauge. One final thing: on some of the Atlas plastic frog turnouts, especially those of more recent manufacture, the points to not always make proper contact with the stock rails. The adjustment is not difficult. Check that, as well.

I like that particular locomotive. Mine will pull fifteen loaded MT gondolas and a MT wood caboose up a one per-cent grade at TEN SMPH; mirabile visu! I wonder if the prototype could do that. Mine is an older issue, so I swapped in a B-mann SPECTRUM USRA standard tender for the factory half wheels live tender. The newer versions (MRC and later) have an all wheels live tender.

I heard the same thing that Brokemoto heard...remove the spring on the pilot wheels.
