I got one of these to run on the mountain spur. Unfortunately, it appears the coupler won't hold with either the Bachmann old-time coaches or the Atlas 60' cars. The MT couplers on both cars are too high to connect with the engine. The tender's brake hose gets stuck on the unitrack (exploded the coupler trying to file it, but it was going to run in push mode anyway), and the engine's coupler is similarly too low. Has anyone else had this problem with coupler height?
No, I don't even have one. My BLI engines are fine, so I suspect it's the engine, regardless. Don't know how to fix if the chassis itself is too low. Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
I would strongly suggest getting one. The one made by Micro Trains is an engineered piece of metal that sits on the rails. I have two of them. Takes the guess work out of things. https://www.ebay.com/i/264814039743...gihOnrYXg0eP2DZSSY4gtwOOFyyXdOohoCsoUQAvD_BwE Also Is the loco motive new or a used loco.
You may want to exchange the couplers. MT offers three coupler heights, low on the shank, even with the shank, and high on the shank. By what you say, you may need high on the shank couplers.
Brand new in box. Should have taken a photo. No railroading tonight. Other commitments. Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
Interesting. My MP Mogul, received new 6+/- years ago, has had no coupler problems with any of my cars, Athearn Overland passengers, and freights from almost every manufacturer, some over 40 years old. I agree with John, try to find a coupler gauge. Something's not right. Though my Mogul and Overland cars are B&M, and the B&M was well known for its excellent mechanical department. I also have a MP Mogul and it does not have coupler issues. Makes me want to think that the wrong coupler was installed in the locomotive. But without a coupler gauge on cannot tell.
