As reported elsewhere on the net, Modoc Northern SD9 #650 has finally arrived on property. This gives them two SD9s so far, #650 & 651. The third is still awaiting transportation from Montegue on the YW to the MNRR. She is ex LMLX #439 and will be MNRR #652. I will be up that way this weekend and was hoping to catch all three on property but I will settle for "the twins" as they are referred to. Oh, and just fyi, the Modoc Northern also got an ex BNSF SW1000 too.
Yep. The B30-7 was returned to Utah Central while they still were the parent of the MNRR. The B23-7 #1011 is still in service but is in need of repairs so will enter the shop shortly. Also they have ex Lake County GP7 #700 that has been the mainstay of the power up till the arrival of the SD9s.
Somewhere I read they they had purchased one or more greengoat/genset switchers.... are they on site yet?
They havn't purchased any to my knowledge. However, just about every Northern California shortline has tested them recently.
Here is a pic of #1011 in the current paint: GP7 #700 before getting the green: And this SD9 is supposedly goin to be #652: Both #650 and #651 arrived in Modoc green. The SW1000 will get repainted from BNSF at some point in the future. I'll be posting the photos from my trip eventually on my Modoc Northern roster (scroll down to see it).
Well, I survived our two day whirlwind trip over three states. Most definately a successfull trip. Bagged photos of "the twins" and the GP7 in green finally. I believe the switcher was in the shop at Lakeview,OR and we saw no sign of the B23-7. I'll be writing out a full trip report on my blog. Photos will follow when I get them developed or when Jeff emails me his.
Well, I don't get to see the odometer. I just plot the course and I don't pay attention to milage. Jeff does the driving. However, we went from Sacramento to Reno, down to Carson City, over to Tahoe and back to CC. From CC we went to Virginia City back north through Reno and Alturas to Lakeview Oregon. Back down to Alturas and accross to Tule Lake and back into Oregon to Klamath Falls and returned to Sacrameno via 97 and I5 through Dunsmuir, Redding, etc. So it was something like CA, NV, CA, NV, CA, OR, CA, OR, CA. My trip report blog is now posted.
Oops...got the Modoc Nothern and the Modoc Railroad Academy mixed up. The railroad school is the one that got the brand new switcher.
The (new)#652 used to be in Tacoma, WA on the old Milwaukee Road from Tacoma, up to Boeing at Frederickson, until Tacoma Rail took over operations on all lines. I was wondering what happened to the ol' girl!
